I have a 18 month old and have tried to potty train him. He plays with the potty as if it were a toy. He will not sit still for no more that a few seconds. He understands anything that I say to him. He likes to flush the toilet at home and knows what a toilet is. People say that my husband should take him into the bathroom and show him. The problem is that my husband leaves early for work and by the time he gets home our son is asleep. I want to be able to potty train him, but it's fustrating because he has such a short attention span when it comes to sitting on the potty. He refuses to sit on the potty, where I would have to sit him on the potty and he then jumps up. I would like to start at the begining in terms of knowing what the first thing that I should do. I would have to take this step by step. Thank you. Andrea

i have successfully potty trained 4 boys, by 1 1/2, my best advice is to jump right in, throw away any pull ups,and diapers, buy lots of undies, let him help pick them out, the first few days will be rough, with lots of laundry, but it will get easier and easier, by 10 days it's done,

I went through potty training with three sons. None of them were interested in sitting on the potty chair until after they turned two. Boys are harder to train than girls, so they say, but I wouldn't know because I had no daughters. Personally, I'd wait a little bit, & before long, your son will show an interest in the potty. He'll show an interest when it's no longer comfy for him to sit in soiled diapers. The last thing you want to do is to force him to use the potty. When he is in the bathroom with you, point to the potty chair & tell him that's the big boy's potty. He will understand at his age & one day, he'll decide it's time.

first you need to take him in the bathroom everytime you or your husband go.
make sure you tell him things like mommys going pee on the potty yeah! and clap for yourself.
you can let him say good-bye to the pee or poop and do the flushing.
second you should put him on the potty every morning 1 st thing
after a week goes by of him watching you , then start him

If you force him or he is not liking it, it will take longer
potty training is a full 2 weeks to a month of work. there is no exceptions! you stay home and just deal with it

FYI:boys are usally a lot harder to train and they also may not start as young

make this a good experience not a hassel!
and for the person saying your husband should show him..... little boys sit on the potty for like a year before they can reach to stand up and pee!....da

18 months is VERY early to potty train, especially where he's a boy and showing zero interest in potty training. It will be a very frustrating experience for both of you. Wait until he's at least 2, even better 2 1/2 or when he starts to show some interest. Good luck!

Say's Rules of Potty Training: (Mother of 4 ALL potty trained by age 2, one even 15 mos!)
1. Change EVERY diaper in the bathroom.
2. Do not use pull-ups. It is either diapers or underwear.
3. Take them to the bathroom once an hour, and when ever anyone else in the house goes potty. Don't just ask, actually take them in, pull down the pants, have them sit.
4. Praise sucess, over praise it, do a silly dance sing a funy potty song. Make a big deal but don't punish mistakes "Poop is gross, Eww"
GOOD LUCK

hes not ready. most boys dont train until close to age 3. you can train him. take him in when you go to the bathroom and sit him on the potty chair. start with having him sit on the potty while you draw his bath water. they start adding a second time a day first thing in the morning specially if he is dry. hes really young still and probably wont get it for another year good luck dont rush or force him it will take longer

years ago they said to start potty training at 18 months but the theories have changed. Unless the child has an interest then don't even attempt to try till age 2. Most aren't ready then. If you start to early then its too much frustration and hard on all concerned. At 18 months the child really has no understanding of what potty training is.

I know diapers are gross when they poop, but 18 months is a bit young for most boys. While some can get the hang of things that early, most are simply "too busy" playing to be uncomfortable yet.

if you want him to get the idea, get him a tiny potty and let him sit on it while you do your business and while daddy does his.

remind him that he can use the potty to "go poop" any time he wants to because it is his potty.

DON"T pressure him! When he is ready, he will show real interest in going.

wait a little while (couple of months) and try again!

good luck

i let my son let me know when he was ready to start using the potty. he would watch my husband and me and finally he realized it was fun to do and he started doing it. now only after a couple of weeks he wears his underwear and hasn't had an accident in them. if you push them too hard when they are too young they will just resist the potty all together. like my fried did. she started around 18 months and now her son is 2 1/2 and still has accidents all of the time. my son started wanting to at 2 and he is completely pottytrained. i would say you should just stop for a while and start again when he shows interest because if you force it, it will do more harm than good.
