You will lose more weight running. It speeds up your metabolism more than walking and burns more calories. If you ran for 30 min at 6mph (that's 3 miles) a 135 lb female would burn @ 300 calories, but if you walked for 1 hr at 3mph (same distance) you would only burn @ 200 calories. Going the same distance, but using more time walking you still don't burn as many calories. Weight lose is caused by using more calories than you consume. Therefore, running will give you better results.
However, if you are new to exercise; you should begin with speed walking or maybe run/walk intervals to build your endurance.
Good Luck!!!

You can lose the same amounts of weight through both, they are both good forms of exercise. The main difference is with running you are working your body harder and you will burn calories quicker. So to burn the same amount of calories through walking you will need to go for a longer walk. E.g. in 6kms you may lose 400 calories, running it's going to take you say 30 mins, walking it may take you 50 mins but in the end you have still burn the same amount.
Running is higher impact, so if you are not used to exercising start out with walking as it will be easier on your joints etc.

Well, if you run already just make double sure you stretch plenty. But, walking was found to be the number one weight loss exercise and relieved stress. Running is not good for the knees-I don't care what runners say-I think they run for the high they get.

yes and add an hour of yoga daily. But planning the diet and the regular meal time is also important.Actually waking up early, going for a jog, doing yoga and eating wisely automatically directs calories to metabolism, but a serious weight loss needs a sincere program.

When you run you work more muscles and you work them faster. Sometimes when walking, it's hard to get a good workout out of it.
