It's hard and takes practice. If possible walk away from the situation that is evoking an anger response. If you can't walk away count slowly to 10 in your head before EVER responding. (breathe deep)This can help you think a bit before saying things you may regret. Often we aren't really angry over what we think we are, it's often something from the past or lack of self esteem and we feel we are being personally attacked even when we aren't. I try to remember what my mom always told me - you can disagree without being disagreeable. You have a right to your opinion but so do others. If the anger you are experiencing is serious (like hitting people) then a professional would be your best answer. I wish you the best.

Hi there,

there are many ways to control anger but it often depends on the extent and frequency of the anger or agression and whom you are aiming it at. If you are getting angry with others, the first and most important rule is to walk away, take yourself somewhere to calm down and think things through rationally because things or actions said in the heat of the moment can be very regretable.

Also try putting that pent up energy into something else, even getting a punchbag or taking a really quick walk can help a lot!! Exercise can be a key to releasing enegry and also increasing endorphanes which help are moods increase for the better.

You could also try listening to music as a way of calming down.

if you feel this is something really disrupting your life why not go see your doctor for a check up, he or she could even possibily refer you to someone who can help you manage it abit better.

Best of luck!

Try some deep breathing. Focus on WHY you're angry. Also, mentally picture the 10 rule: Will this affect you 10 minutes from now? 10 days from now? 10 weeks from now? 10 months? 10 years? Depending on how you react, think about the consequences of your actions. Is it worth getting into a fight about? If you aren't able to control your anger on your own, you may need to see a counselor.

The key is actually not in controling it. Control suggests stuffing it down. Stuffing it can only result in blowups and loss of control. What you need to do is to actually figure out what is making you angry, why it's making you angry, and try to figure out the best course of action to take. If you need to take a break from the situation to do this, then do it. Walk away and cool off. Deep breathing does help.

Count to 10, then take 10 deep breaths, while imagining your happy place---puppies, a beach, dancing bunny rabbits, shiny bottles of tequila ice skating on the bar...whatever fits the bill ....

This is a mind-boggling question for me also. I just try to let it pass by me. I think about it, but I bottle it up so no one knows I'm angry. My friends & mommy tell me that this is not good. They say that I should write my feelings down or talk to someone about it. You can take my advice or my friends. (But just to warn you about my advice, I have a stress disorder and my friends say it's because I bottle up my emotions.) Good Luck!

put on some relaxing music, go for a walk, or have a relaxing bath, if it is someone making you angry walk a way from them and come back when you calm down. try some yoga.

I isolate myself, write my feelings down in a diary and just do things that cheer me up like listen to my favourite music, chat to people etc.
