In jelly, the fruit comes in the form of fruit juice.
In jam, the fruit comes in the form of fruit pulp or crushed fruit (and is less stiff than jelly as a result).

Jam uses the whole fruit, and will be chunky. Jelly just uses the juice. There's no actual fruit pieces in jelly.

There's also marmalade, which I think is like jam but with the rinds used too. (I think. Don't take my word for it, though.)

Jelly is clear with no pieces of fruit in it and has a texture like jello. Jam is made with whole pieces of fruit and has a softer texture.

Jelly is made from fruit juice and so has no fruit bits. Jam is made by boiling fruit and does have fruit bits.
