of Christ ?" And what exactly does this mean. I can only presume that it somewhat means to take one's thoughts into captivity to the obediance of the bible, to cast out wrong, unskillful thinking ?

Come on, Father K, and others who have been reading and studying the bible for a long time, I need some help. *Thank You for all you intelligent, and most encouraging answers.

2Cr 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

It means take control of your thought life by the Spirit of God. satan will use your mind against you by bringing in ideas that try to usurp authority over your faith. It will in essence try to "cast out your faith" but in our spiritual warfare we are to "capture" those rogue thoughts that lead to death and bring them as "prisoners" to the foot of the cross. See the deception for what it is and replace God's Truth from His Word in its place. Philippians 4:8 guides us into what our thought patterns ought to be. If we can see the "error" of our own thinking, then we will not be as easily deceived by the "error" of someone elses thinking when it is presented to us. But the first step is to be obedient to Christ in our thought life by recognizing and casting out anything that would destroy our faith in our knowledge of God and obedience to Christ. God bless.

2 Corinthians 10:5
We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

It means that we need to take control of our thought lives. I.e. think Godly thoughts. Do not make any place available for sinful thoughts.

This may include changing what you read and watch in terms of movies and TV; no porn! It pollutes the mind. Instead:

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

"For the weapons of our warfare are not those of the flesh. Instead, they have the power of God to demolish fortresses. We tear down arguments and every proud obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive in order to obey Christ." (II Corinthians 10:4-5)

And it means that whenever we have stray thoughts that do not please God, we can get back on track by disciplining our mind. Scripture memorization can help.
