Dogs grieve like people do. And he might be sad for a while, but with lots of love and attention from you, he'll get over it. Just be sweet to him, and remember he lost a friend, too.

if your two dogs were left alone most of the day , the one left will be a bit lonely because it always had a companion .

Make sure you spend time with it when you can , and that it has some toys to play with when you are not there.

Another dog might be a good idea , I would look at the animal shelter for a dog of about the same age. Make sure the two get along ok though.

I am going through the same thing right now. My one dog passed away 2 days ago and we have a lab who is desperately searching the house for her companion. I have also experienced this with past dogs as well. They seem to move on after a while, but I think they do feel a loss just as we do. It takes time to get over. I think it also probably depends on the age of the dog that is still alive. Just give your dog plenty of love and attention. I wish you luck and am truly sorry for your loss.

The surviving dog will be down and out for a while. As long as you give her the lovins she needs, she should be O.K.
When you're ready...maybe you could find your dog a new playmate.
There are shelters you can go to with your current dog to see how they'll react together. Of course you'd want to go to find a few dogs that you're interested in and can spend some time with before you start introductions with your dog.
Just take special care of her. It does affect a dog to lose a long time companion. Time to spoil her so rottenly that she'll stink in other words! lol

I know from experience, your dog is going to feel really lonely. I had to get another dog to keep my other dog company to lessen the pain but my dog, I could tell was still looking for the other dog for quite a while because she would not let my new dog touch anything my old dog utilized. It will take time but the new dog and your dog will get along fine. I am very sorry for your loss and I send my condolences.

My older dog died at home, so we allowed all of the other animals to say good bye. Our other dog mourned her and was lonely until we brought home a new puppy. She was happy with the company for about 1 month, now I think she wishes he'd just go away. Big sister - younger brother blues, I guess.

He/she may feel lonely and depressed fora little while. But the surviving dog will be fine, try to spend as much time with him/her as possible. Maybe when you think you are ready you can get another playmate.

I know how it feels and I am sorry for your loss.
