People who speak in "tongues" today totally do not understand what "tongues" are.
Tongues were given in order that a bunch of backwoods country fishermen would be able to communicate with people of other "tongues"....
In Acts it tells us that, when the Holy Spirit descended on the 120 disciples gathered in the upper room, they began to speak in other "tongues"...and THREE SEPARATE TIMES it tells us that all the people gathered there from all over the known world understood them IN THEIR OWN NATIVE LANGUAGE. I am not sure how the babbling nonsense that passes for "tongues" today got started, but it is NOT the same thing at all.
If people would only research for themselves, instead of just believing everything they are told......

1 Corintians 13:8-14:30. They will only cease when we come into the physical presence of our Creator. So keep speaking in tongues because it is God's will.

1 Corinthians 13:8- Love never fails. But whether there are [gifts of] prophesying, they will be done away with; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will be done away with.

I don't know about ceasing. But Jesus Christ said his followers will speak in tongues be able to handle snakes and drink poison without being harmed, and touch sick people and they will be cured. I believe it was Paul who spoke against speaking in tongues.

Does this mean that knowledge has vanished away? This verse simply means that once Heaven is our home we will no longer need to pray in tongues. But now abideth faith, hope and charity, but the greatest of these is charity. Why? Because once we are in Heaven, faith and hope will no longer be neccessary. But charity (love) will always be needed. It's the same thing as the tongues thing.
