As long as you're striving to be the best of your abilities, you shouldn't beat yourself up if you don't make it to the very top because even 2nd or 3rd place is better than most folks get.

As long as you are trying to achieve the best you can do, then there is something to be proud of. If you are truly doing your best to achieve the highest place, then it is honorable to reach second or third because you put in your best effort. It is when you are not doing your absolute best and not trying your hardest to achieve something that it becomes dishonorable to reach second or third.

It means that even if your goal is to reach the top, if you are working as hard as you can, it's ok to come in second or third.As in your grades. If you are working as hard has you can to make A's and he highest grade you can achieve is a B, be happy that you did that well, because you gave it your all.

the highest place is perfection. no one can reach perfection but everyone should reach for it. so u only get close or closer to it, close is the third place and closer is the second. in this sense no matter third or second, you did it
