Why can't pregnant women get piercings? I realize that there is a chance of infection, but your face doesn't affect the baby. Just curious. Same with tattoos...

Tattoos don't cause skin cancer. that is one of the most ridiculous things i have ever heard. I already have 2 tats, and 7 piercings. just never while pregnant :)

Well it can affect the baby if you get an infection that goes to your blood stream which you share with the baby. Just wait till you have that beautiful baby then go get your piercings done. Everything you do right now can have an affect on your baby. Be careful and be safe. Congrats on the baby.

If you go to a reputable tattoo place, then a piercing or tattoo probably shouldn't hurt the baby. However, why even take the chance? If you get an infection, it goes through your bloodstream, which will affect your baby, no matter where the infection site is.
You're pregnant for 9 months, why not just wait until after it's born? It's not really that long anyway for a tat/piercing you really want

"Unless pregnancy is taking a heavy toll on you or you are particularly sensitive to shock, your body should still be able to receive and heal tattoos and piercings. Depending on your state of health, you may decide it's prudent to wait until after the child's birth so you can devote your body's resources to protecting the baby. Also, remember, to some extent, anything you experience, your baby experiences as long as your bodies are connected. Note that many piercers and tattooists will refuse to work on pregnant women, and will have documented disclaimers the person receiving the modification must sign."

To add to it, though you sign a liability form the piercer or tattoo artist does not want to be held responsible or accused of being at fault if there are complications during birth or birth defects. And if something does go wrong, I don't think you want to beat yourself up over it because you couldn't wait for the tattoo or piercing. Generally its seen as a better safe than sorry situation because you CAN get infections and diseases and that CAN harm your child.
Piercings are more likely to become infected than tattoos and that infection can spread fast. Reputable shops won't mod pregnant women. As a professional piercer, I won't do it either. There is NO reason why it cannot wait until the child is born either.
There are even people who argue that you shouldn't get mods until you are done breastfeeding, there is little research I have found on that.

I asked my tattoo guy the same question he said you can get tattoos while pregnent but they are not recommended because all tattoos are prone to infection and when you are pregnant you have more of a chance getting and infection and when you are pregnant your body is going through so many changes and sometimes it could effect the way your tat heels. Its just better to wait for you and your tattoos.

hi ya the only thing i had trouble with was my nipple ring i had to take it out half way thro my preg which i know i would have to, i know people that have had tattoos and they been fine while pregnant, i do know that you cant give blood if you recently had tattoo or piercing, as for the cancer oh please i have 6 tattoos and 9 piercings and im fine lol ive come back to this question cause ive just spoke to my sister who is a nurse and ask her she said your skin is in such good condition while preg it would take less time for a tattoo to heal but other docs would disagree

when you get pierced there is a risk of infection and some infections do affect the whole body including fever. you could also potentially get blood poisoning which would affect the baby. and IF on the slim chance new needles were not used you could contract a blood bourne disease like hepatitis or HIV which would absolutely be passed to your baby. it's just not worth the risk to the baby's health.

Any sort of trauma (of which tattooing and piercing are two such forms) increases the chances of miscarriage. Not to mention the chance of transmitting blood-borne diseases...

it is the same reason that dentists wont pull or fill your tooth while pregnant unless its an emergency. Trauma to your body effects the baby. It is a small chance but nobody wants to take that chance.
