I think that the President's kids, and the kids of the Congressional representatives who voted for the war resolution should have a tour in Iraq. This way, those members of Congress would have to think a little harder - "Do I want to send MY kid over there?" They might even reconsider their decision to go to war if they had to face that risk - losing their own offspring.

No one should hve ever had a tour in the second Iraqi conflict

Our air strikes were plenty enough, Saddam's regime would have fallen after that shock and awe

But in answer to your question,
I think all young people should do a 1 or 2 year service to our country---not necessarily military service--give an option that or community service helping with the Katrina disaster or other like things

I would like to see every person from the age of 18 through 21 serve in some branch of the military, not necessarily go to war though; as long as they were a citizen and not a felon. I think our country would be much stronger as a result. Nothing against you young folks out there; you're life is pretty tough what with the generation ahead of you totally screwing up almost everything for you, but there is a distinct lack of moral fiber now. The fools that we have in power in the government are proof of that.

In some ways, I would say yes. It's obvious most people answering this question are more interested in the war you mentioned than your actual question. But I'll approach this more generally.

I think that serving your country's military can teach you things that you would not otherwise learn. It can teach you independence and self-reliance, as well as the equal importance of teamwork, and looking out for your fellow soldiers. I think there are many that would benefit from serving, but given the current political atmosphere, I don't see it as something that is likely to happen.

Thank goodness it's not required. The majority of citizens think this war is wrong and immoral. Why would we send Americans to fight a civil war for another country?
I've got a better idea. If people don't believe in this war yet they want to serve, perhaps they can join the peace corp or another organization that is geared toward HELPING as opposed to KILLING.

With as many people that are dying out there, that question is really kind of ofset. Personally, I wouldn't put people there that don't have to be there, seeing as how it's hostile ground. What we see in the news is only a fraction of what's really going on with the troops' lives out there.

my kids will be going nowhere NEAR that festering cesspool. I don't care about anyone else. I didn't have children to feed them to the three headed Bush war monster.

I say every last elected official in DC who supports this ridiculous war should go, along with their entire family, and let loose on the streets of Baghdad at midnight with no protection or communication device.

Why? The military is voluntary.

Should every rich kid living off their parents have to live in a ghetto and work in a factory for a few months?

It's called freedom.

I think every young person should do some kind of public service, but joining the armed services should not be mandatory.

I think anyone who thinks we ought to be fighting other countries wars ought to put themselves where their mouth it - and go there.

BILLIONS this nonsense is costing - and for what benefit~? Kill UK and US soldiers, obliterate civilians in Iraq - and possible even get a few terrorist too.
Just how many MILLION pounds/dollars PER terrorsit are we going to waste?

Sure terrorist are nasty folks - but you are several HUNDRED time more likely to die at ther hands of your doctor than at the hands of a terrorist!

(doctors just in the UK OR US kill more patients anually through wrong treatment, incorrect dosage, misidagnosis etc than the Worlds terrorist do in a decade.

Just to keep things in persepctive........
