Hi there, last October I purchased a French Bulldog, by christmas (he was 4 months old) he was fully house trained. I have now got him a friend another French Bulldog. This one is nearly 5 months old and despite constantly taking him out, he is no where near house trained, and to add insult to injury the older puppy is now using the house as a toilet. I would really appreciate some good advice. I have tried all the usual stuff, like puppy pads, paper, treating them, but this little one seems really stubborn!!!!

Based on your question, I am assuming that you have two males. It sounds like they are marking your house in a struggle for dominance. You should take them both to the vet to make sure that they don't have any kind of urninary infection, so you can rule that out. If they are both healthy you might want to crate train them. You also might want to consider a professional trainer, or dog psychologist. Try walking them outside together, and I mean LONG walks, and let them mark up the neighborhood together. You should also go to your local library and read as many books as you can on dog psychology. If you are not going to breed them, get them nuetered too. They will both be healthier in the long run if you do.

Most dogs are not really fully housetrained until about 7 months of age. They may do well before that but they really don't 'understand' until that age. You can try bell training. Hang a string of bells from the door handle where you take them out to potty. You can teach them to move the bells with a nose or paw. Start by you ringing the bell with their paw EVERY time you take them out. Praise them like crazy and they'll soon understand that ringing the bells means opening the door. Make sure you praise and/or give them a treat when they go potty outside.

Paper training is the worst thing ever! When you paper train a dog ,you are training them to go in the house. Crate training is awesome. You have to start by monitering food and water. After you feed them, put them in their crate. If they whine, cover them with a blanket. Wait and walk them outside. When you take them, ask them if they have to go outside. Take them to the place you decide should be their potty spot and tell them to go potty. If they don't, put them back in their crates and try again later. When they do, praise them and give them treats. They should then be free to wander the house. But watch the water. What goes in must come out! It is also important to get them on a schedule so you know when they need to go and they will eventually learn to tell you when they need to go. Be consistant and don't let them treat there potty walks as play time. It is the time to take care of business. This really works so try it. Good luck!

The problem with getting another puppy before your 1st dog is mature is that it can put a set back on training. You need to start from scratch again with both dogs.Take them out every 2 hours and wait untill they've gone to the loo, then praise them wildly. If you catch them in the house simply pick them up and put them outside with the command 'outside' give a loud firm no when you catch them. You need to be consistent and very patient as having 2 is always going to be harder work then having one to house train. You will get there though, just keep doing what your doing.Good luck.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/wtT3M

By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.

To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.
