Yes they happened in the mid and late 1970's to guys who were a CF all by themselves. One recruit got his whole company bumped back two weeks in boot camp cycle got a royal blanket party. The DI's pulled the idiot and put him in my company he went from week 7 to week 5 then to week 1 when he still caused trouble he got a second blanket party that finally got his attention. He straightened out and was number 3 in our company.
Note: A properly done blanket party leaves no visible bruises but it hurts the surprised person a heck of a lot.

Blanket Parties do not happen anymore...usually suspected gay males are made fun of a lot...that is why most do not last, especially if they are very feminine...don't ask don't tell only applies to leaders, i.e. Commanders and NCOs...not fellow soldiers...I came in the Army before don't ask don't tell, and yes the DS did call people names...only thing that changed after D.A.D.T was that you could not ask someone if they were gay or not, but it did not keep us from ripping on them...Equal Opportunity in the Military does not cover Sexual Orientation...so they can not file formal complaints, but I did have to tell some soldiers to leave a guy alone...I never really made fun of the gays, but I tried to stay away from them...but believe it or not most of the Lesbian soldiers I had were hard core and were good soldiers...go figure...

I saw three in 1989, when I served in the Navy. None were against homosexuals, though I know of a few who fell up the stairs more than a few times per week, but never a blanket party. Those are reserved for the guys who mess life up for everyone, not someone with an alternative lifestyle.

Yes. It happens to the chronic screw ups who keep getting everyone punished. When I was in Basic at Ft. Sill in 1984 we had 2 for the same guy. The first one really couldn't be called a blanket party because it happened in the showers. About 20 of us scrubbed his smelly a*s with scrub brushes and several boxes of laundry soap. We were sick of his stench. About 2 weeks later he got the blanket treatment in his bunk at night.

Only to those that deserve them. We never had a "blanket party" as such but we let the offender know that he had incurred the wrath of his comrades. A drunk that always got his buddies in trouble had his gentiles painted black with edge dressing after he had passed out. A photograph was made and hung displayed through-out the barracks. He got off light considering the trouble he caused everyone.

Yes, I can assure you that they happen. Several occurred when I was in the Air Force. It wasn't for gays, it was for a couple snitches that got everyone in trouble. Or for someone that could not keep up with the flight and made us lose leave. I am sure that it still happens, it is too easy to do and the military rarely does anything about it.

It might. I was involved in a blanket party where we went after I guy who didn't bathe. He got to stink so bad, we ambushed him and dragged him into the shower and soaked him down. We were going to attempt to scrub him with a brush, but he was kicking and flailing and none of us wanted to be that close to a naked, wet guy. A similar thing happened when my brother went in (blanket party on a non-bather). Never really paid much attention to potential gays, the "don't tell, don't ask" thing worked. Those we suspected were low-key and modest about it, so no one ever thought twice about them.

With out question Blanket Parties happen in boot camp. But, you have to be a REAL A$$HOLE to get one.
If you screw off and get your whole company in trouble all the time, you can expect one.
No, I don't think you would get one for being gay unless you acted stupid.
