I was thinking of changing out of my bulky wedding gown into another dress more comfortable to dance in. Would that be acceptable? Also the dress I already have for changing into is ivory and my wedding gown is white.

I already have the dress and it was free to me.

That's acceptable. Don't worry lots of people do it. But if you can, I suggest that you go through some of the reception in your actual wedding gown before you change.

That is definately acceptable, many people that wear large wedding gowns change for the reception so they can move better and not take out the entire buffet table. The difference in color doesn't matter, I have seen women change into anything from a very nice evening dress to a skirt and tank top.

I would wear your gown for at least part of the reception, when are you ever honestly going to get to wear it again???? So why not use it to the fullest, that's one of the reason's why they make it so you can bussel it up in the back. You can defintily wear the other one if you'd like to, being it was free and all, why not. Plus after awhile you will want to freshen up, with some new deodorant and that would be a good time to put a fresh dress on as well. Or if you are leaving right after the reception for the honeymoon, you could do like in all the old movies and use it as your honeymoon dress and be all big and fancy and that way all eyes are on you! Which is a nice effect traveling, some special touches to the new Mr & Mrs.
But a tip, being a bridesmaid recently I don't know what possessed me to do it, BUT the bride thanked me. Have a bridesmaid bring a Deodorant in her lil purse, even if it's a travel size. Think these are all your closest girls, sharing a deodorant isn't going to matter, but smelling fresh while dancing with relatives IS all night long or leaning in for those big hugs is too. That was the best thing i had in my purse.

If they aren't carrying purses; have someone tuck purses in the trunk of their car so you can have them at the reception for the desperate stuff, ie the deodorant or cash. We did that too a boyfriend took the big purses carrying extra shoes, for later in his car.

Are you planning to have all your pictures done before the reception?

If you decide to change -- and that's fine if you do because it's your wedding -- just be sure you have all the photos you want in your wedding dress so that you don't have to rush and change back for something like throwing the bouquet or the garter toss. And that way you don't have to worry about your hair either!

Enjoy your special day!

I have heard of this. Make sure you take all your pictures and do all the 'stuff' first dance, garter, cake, before you change if you want to have those photographed with your wedding gown.

No way! You only get to wear the dress ONE DAY - make the most of it and you will be totally fine dancing in it -- everybody always wants to dance with the bride in the big white dress and have pics taken!

It's acceptible. But it's fun to wear the wedding dress, especially since you will pay a lot for it! But it's your choice.
