Run the test at the link below.....it will tell you if your pc can run vista....
http://pcpitstop.com/vistaready/default.asp
You will need a dual processor to run a 64 bit version of any operating system..... or AMD makes a sigle core X64 processor... but a 64 bit O.S. will not run on a celeron processor...

Why on earth do you want vista it'.s not that great. But if you're set on getting it i'm sorry installing Vista Ultimate and using Aero theme is no way, it would be suicide. You could run Vista without the silly Aero theme but that's the main thing people want from Vista, a silly theme. It would still run slow even without the Aero theme, cos of all the useless "features" in Vista. And a 64 bit OS will require a 64 bit system probably, and there's no point buying a more expensive OS when even if it could run, you wouldn't get the benefits of 64 bit. To run Vista you will need more RAM, 1 GB probably is safe, with a good Pentium 4 processor. Hard Drive is fine, and if you have any peripherals such as printers and scanners and stuff now on XP, bin them, they will not work with vista.

Windows.com (or microsoft.com?) one of the 2 anyway, has a download you can get and install called "windows vista upgrade advisor"
It scans your pc and tells you everything that's ok, and everything that needs upgraded (drivers, RAM, Hard Disk, etc...) for Vista to work.
But, you at least need 1GB RAM to run it, I can tell you that much.

let me give you a heads up on vista .
IMO opinion it's far to early to upgrade to it . there are a host of compatibility issues . from drivers , to programs not designed for it , to tech support personal not fully understanding it . for this reason as the network Admin for a MAJOR US. business , i will not allow my staff to install vista on any of our work stations at this time . we will stick with xp pro

I wouldn't recommend it. Vista is a memory hog.
