after you straighten it, rub one of those sheets that goes in the dryer all over/through your hair-- it eventually makes it really smooth and shiny, even if its frizzy/poofy after straightening-- its easy and doesn't involve product, plus you can keep a sheet in your purse in case it starts getting frizzy again

Okay, here are some suggestions.
a. Accept your curly hair. Besides, it is much more fun that straight hair.
b. Use a hair serum before straightening to get rid of frizz, and then an anti-humidity hair spray after to fight that poofiness you get at first sight of water.
c. Put your hair in loose braids at night (not tight ones!) and get pretty waves instead.

I am not sure if you are applying any products in your hair PRIOR to using the CHI to aviod frizz. My daughter has really LONG CURLY hair. I first apply the CHI Silk Infusion (dime size amount to quarter size depending on how long your hair is) evenly throughout the hair. It is not greasy. Next I spray a heat protectanct to the strands prior to applying the CHI flat iron (try Aveda Brilliant Damage Control or Motions Heat Protector). Lastly, I use a dime size to quarter size amount of Farouk BioSilk Silk Therapy and it leaves the hair super silky and the humidity is no problem. Good luck!!

I would say before straightening your hair rub a little bit of Biosilk on your hair and when you use the straightener it will come out very straight and it won't puff. Biosilk can be bought at JC Penny or any professional salon.

I think it time to embrace your curly hair. Stop trying to make it something that it is not. Obviously, your hair does not want to be straight or else it will tolerate the product that you are using. Curly hair is beautiful, people pay good money to get curly hair, and you got it for free, enjoy it.
