One of my good friends is pregnant and plans to name her little girl Anicca. To look at it, you'd pronounce it Ann-ick-uh, right? The thing is, she wants to pronounce it An-neech-uh...something to do with double cc's being pronounced "ch" in Italian? Nothing I can do to change her mind, but I feel sorry for her little girl because people are going to mis-pronounce her name her whole life!

I like the Scandinavian version--Annika. Pronounced ah-ni-kuh. As far as the girl's name being mispronounced...my name is Elisebet (pronounced eh-lease-eh-bet), which is Norwegian for Elizabeth, and --yeah-- people have mispronounced it all my life, but you just learn to deal.

In Sweden there is a common name that goes: Annika. Its pronounced the way you want Anicca to be pronounced. And when I first saw the name, your pronounciation was the one I thought of. If she wants the name to be pronounced the way you're explaining, I suggest she name the baby that way. Like Anecia or something.

When I first read the name, I thought "that's kind of pretty". However, I was pronouncing it the same way, you imagined it should read. The way she has it, no one will get it right. (unless, they know italian) Poor little girl! My sister named her baby Kalie, and her baby is only 3 weeks old, and she gets really ticked when people pronounce it Kaylee. We told her so..., she can only blame herself. On the other hand, there's a lot worse names... My cousin named his poor little boy Wrangler Tuff.

I think it's great, however I am a bit partial to odd or unique names, (yes, I dig Apple, and Suri).. but not much a fan of parents who name their kids mainstream names but really go wacky with the spelling of it.

but yeah, either way it's pronounced, I think it's very cool and pretty.

I liked the name Annica for our daughter but my wife wasn't a fan. What we named our daughter is unusual but a beautiful name. My name is Devon and people used to think it was DEE VAUGHN. I just corrected them. It wasn't a big deal at all. Maybe it even helped me learn to be assertive.

I think that parents should take into consideration their children's future when naming them. To have to constantly have to tell people how to pronounce your name would be frustrating.

I share your concern -- she's going to be called An-eh-ka the rest of her life. Hopefully she has a decent middle name that she can fall back on!

It reminds me too much of Anikan from the star wars movies

If that is what she wants to curse her daughter with, let it be. Sounds like she has her mind set. I would just walk away from that if I were you.
