To ensnare any nasties that are heading towards your junk.

Eyebrows stop sweat getting into your eyes; pubes work in a similar way.

Question:

What is the purpose of pubic hair? It seems gross for a woman to have pubic hair but everybody does. Does pubic hair have anything to do with the sexual experience. How much should a woman wax or shave in order to be appealing?

Answer:

You are asking the age-old question, “why do we have hair down there?” There are many theories behind why humans have pubic hair. One thought is that the hair that grows around the genitals and under the arms lock in sexually stimulating scents called pheromones. For some, scents released from these areas are noticeable and can increase sexual desire. For others, pheromones might not be obvious but may be subliminally sensed. Some people believe that pubic hair keeps our genitals warm. Others believe that the purpose of pubic hair is to prevent dirt from entering the vagina. (The Sexpert does not have an exact answer on the purpose of pubic hair and its effect on the sexual experience because it is not completely known. The exact evolutionary explanation to why we have pubic hair is similar to wondering why we have eyebrows…or why some people only have one…) With or without purpose, pubic hair can be ornamental and eye-catching to its owner or to others. How you style your pubic hair is up to you. There are women and men who prefer one look over others (just as some prefer a mohawk, mullet or total shave for the hairdos on their head) and there are people who don't think twice about how their pubic hair looks. Pubic hair is unique in amount, color and consistency. Some women let their pubic hair grow into a full coverage of the pubic area while others prefer to keep their hair trimmed. (some seasonally prefer to have a neatly shaven “bikini line”). There are also women who choose to remove some or all of the their pubic hair. Shaving, waxing or removing your pubic hair is by no means permanent. As the hair starts to grow back, however, it can be very itchy and uncomfortable.

Trimming or completely removing pubic hair has become a custom in many cultures. A preference for hairless genitals is known as acomoclitism. The method of removing hair is called depilation (when removing only the hair above the skin) or epilation (when removing the entire hair). The trimming or removal of body hair by men is sometimes referred to as manscaping.

Hair keeps your body warm. Try shaving your head sometime, and you will know what I'm talking about. The hair on your head is important, but body hair is not really important because most of us wear clothes, and most of us have heated homes.

Body hair is a common colloquial term for the terminal hair on the human body developing during and after puberty in contrast to the head hair and the less visible vellus hair. A medical term for it is androgenic hair since its growth depends primarily on the level of androgens (male hormones) containing within the individual human organism. Due to a normally higher level of androgens men tend to have visibly more androgenic hair than women so that this type of hair can be seen as a sign for sexual dimorphism and therefore a secondary sex characteristic.

The Purpose is understood in physiology, this might be helpful:

Puberty refers to the process of physical changes by which a child's body becomes an adult body capable of reproduction. Growth accelerates in the first half of puberty and reaches completion by the end. Body differences between boys and girls before puberty are almost entirely restricted to the genitalia. During puberty major differences of size, shape, composition, and function develop in many body structures and systems. The most obvious of these are referred to as secondary sex characteristics. In a strict sense, the term puberty (and this article) refers to the bodily changes of sexual maturation rather than the psychosocial and cultural aspects of adolescent development.

Adolescence is the period of psychological and social transition between childhood and adulthood. Adolescence largely overlaps the period of puberty but its boundaries are less precisely defined and it refers as much to the psychosocial and cultural characteristics of development during the teen years as to the physical changes of puberty. Children and young adolescents near the average age of puberty are sometimes referred to as peripubescent in medical literature.

HOWEVER STRICT HYGIENE SHOULD BE MAINTAINED THAT'S REMOVAL BY USING SOME GENTLE HAIR REMOVING CREAM, OTHERWISE IT RESULTS IN SKIN DISEASES.

My guess would be to keep stuff out? Hear me out on this one!! Much in the same way that eyelashes and eyebrows work... keep foreign objects like dirt or whatever out. But I would assume that in this day and age it's not really needed since we are clothed and clothing protects them.

IMO, it's useless to us now... might have been nice when we were all cavemen.

Pubic hair, butt hair, eyebrows, eyelashes...They are all there to protect us from dirt and other things traveling into places where they don't belong. God gave us that hair as a survival trait.

Uncertain. Some feel it is to keep the area warmer, other think it helps with the prevention of chafing, one school of thought is that it helps with trapping pheremones to increase desire
