I have had 3 ear surgeries in my life. All ENT doctors advise against using q-tips. Just use a clean cloth to gently clean the outermost part of your ear "hole". As for wax build-up, your doctor can remove this for you-pain free, but noisy. Or you can buy DIY kits at Walgreens, etc.
I once got a staph infection in an ear that had a tube in it. Dr. told me I would have been dead in a week if I had not come in. He said I most likely got it from laying q-tips on sink countertop before using them.
Beware of Q-tips!

once you pay attention the term no balls, it has a different which ability to each and all people. No balls to 3 people ability being scared to get harm, or do some thing bodily brave. To others it ability being an avoider, fending off conflict, or disagreement, or manipulating instead of confronting. maximum of my concern in existence has come no longer from certainly being an avoider, yet from being a shy person, and being seen as an avoider. i do no longer have confidence people would desire to locate greater guts, because of the fact no one, at the same time with me, has guts each and each of the time, on a daily basis. i'm in basic terms a guy with a bad social mistrust and soreness, and a few people see it as concern of disagreement, and as someone, I care what they think of better than I fake to care approximately them.

You're advised not to clean your ears with them, but if you do be very careful because your ear canal is not that long and you can puncture your ear drum. Your ears can overproduce wax due to change in climate or even from being sick, but you should be in your bathroom doing that not where you're going to have people bumping you because you can accidentally get qtips stuck in the canal.

No, but don't use Q-tips. Your ears will be fine naturally without any help. Q-tips can cause damage if you poke them in too far.

The scary things are
1. digging too deep
2. when something or someone could bump you -- making it go too deep.
Just don't worry about it.
:)
(people got along with out Q-tips before they were invented right? haha)
