There's a product available in Hardware stores called "Brasso". It's normally used to shine brass objects, but it also does a great job of fixing the type of problem you're having with scratches on the CD's. Here's how to use it. First, with regular dishwashing liquid, and warm water, thoroughly clean the surface of the disc. Then dry it thoroughly. Now, get a clean soft cloth (like an old tee shirt), and apply a little of the Brasso to the cloth. Rub the Brasso into the surface of the disc, WORKING FROM THE CENTER HOLE OUT TOWARD THE RIM....NOT IN A CIRCULAR MOTION! Once you've done that, take a clean portion of the cloth, and working again from the hole outward, rub the disc til it's nice and shiny. Now try the disc again and see if you notice an improvement...almost always you will. Hope this helps.
