But to complicate things my husband developed pneumonia, my daughter an ear infection and myself a lyhphnode infection. I was wondering what the possible causes are, my lymphnodes on my head swelled so bad that one was the length of my finger, we have all been to the doctor and been prescribed antobiotics. I just want us to be healthy agian, does anyone have any idea what could be going on? We have been sick for more than two weeks? Any advice would begreatly appreciated.

Well you've already seen the Dr, but how long have you been taking the antibiotics? It's not unusual for everyone in the house to be sick, but it's usually the same thing. What did they say the source of the infection was? It sounds like you all have been exposed to a similar bacteria or virus and have exhibited different or secondary infections. Did this start as a 'head cold"? Why were your lymph nodes so inflamed? They are usually enlarged secondary to an infection somewhere in the body, in your case sinuses maybe. I would seek a second opinion if you aren't satisfied with the one you got. Antibiotics can take a while to start working and will not do you any good if it's viral in nature. Head to the ED if no improvement is noted. Good Luck

Influenza will sometimes cause secondary infections like the ones that you're experiencing. The average flu lasts between one to two weeks and the secondary infections develop around the time that the influenza is winding down. I think that your whole family just got the flu really hard. Give the antibiotics some time to work and get lots of rest and stay hydrated. You should feel better in a couple of days. I read an article about older hospitals not being breeding grounds for bacteria because of better ventilation and more outside air. The article recommended open windows and good air circulation in a house where there are sick people. It sounds silly but try opening up all the windows and letting the outside air and sunshine in and set up some fans around your house to promote air circulation. It can't hurt and it might help you feel a little better.

It does sound like you have the flu pretty bad. Some strains are worse than others. Last year my girls and I were so sick that we were literally not able to lift a finger for 2 weeks. If it's a viral infection, antibiotics aren't going to help. It just has to pass.

**EDIT: I was going to say something about keeping stuff clean too, but didn't want to run the risk of sounding rude.

Oh dear!

I really don't know. I'm tempted to suggest strep, and you say the doctor did prescribe antibiotics.

This won't help with the disease already in you. But you could try taking vitamins and drinking extra water to boost your immune systems. And meanwhile, become agressive about keeping stuff clean. Wash the bedding in hot water, if the water won't damage your bedding. And use diluted lysol every day on your sink, the outside of your toilet, and the bathtub. And use alcohol on all the little handles that everyone uses every day.

Good luck, lots of it!

My advice would be to see another doctor who will do more than prescribe antibiotics. If what you have is viral they will do nothing.
