why would you want to "turn" them to any point of view, don't you think people should make up own minds on these issues? isn't trying to indoctrinate people to a specific viewpoint what religion is all about? if atheism is so self evident, then I am sure they will eventually decide that is the best course for them

teach him/her about the cultural context in which the Bible was written. Atheism is overrated, as long as they're no longer insane with belief in myths i'd count it as a win.

LOL. Great question.
Make him see that life is random.
Show him that being responsible for his own decisions is a fun party trick.
Play lots of music with distorted lyrics.
Tell him that eating junk food is a basic tennant because its the best way to preserve yourself for infinity.

Simply show them what happens when religious people take their religion too seriously.

Okay, so I hear all the time about atheists bashing christians for trying to "convert" as many people as possible,
but from the looks of this qestion, AND a lot of the answers,
your doing the same thing.

So now you can no longer cry about a christian trying to convert you if your doing the SAME D*MN THING

I have this really cool spell... LOL j/k.

Books on the history of religions and how they emerged, along with the emergence of monotheism and their impact on society through history usually does the trick, if they're actually open to real historical evidence that is...

Give them the bible and ask them to read Genesis. Then ask if that makes sense.

Then give them a book on Buddha. Ask if that makes sense.

Then give them a book on psychics and reincarnation and ask it that makes sense.

Then give them Richard Dawkins "God Delusion."

Help your friend to decide what makes sense to them.
