I always hear atheists say that they dont like Christians because they put God in politics and attempt to ban abortion, stem cell research, gay marriage, ban evolution from schools, etc. But, atheists never asked my opinion on the matter and I doubt they asked any other Christians. None of these things have anything to do with my religion. I do not support stem cell research and abortion because of moral reasons, not religious. I think it is morally wrong, but I know there is nothing in the bible saying not to have an abortion or make stem cells. Can't I still be a conservative in the US, or did the militant atheists ban that party? I don't support evolution because I have not been convinced of it. And gay marriage, I don't hate that because God says so, I hate it because it is GROSSSSS! In fact, I am quite open-minded when two young ladies want to explore, so you can't call me a bigot. Why do atheists constantly generalize me and think I cannot make a moral decision on my own?

lucky fokker, the point was that i do not get my views strictly from my religion, unlike what atheists say. my opinions are what they are, but they are seperate from my religion and just as valid, if not a lot more so, than yours

You cannot make a moral decision on your own. You have to be a Christian to not agree with the politcal views of an athiest, because they are supreme intellectual creatures who know all the answers. If they are so confident about being right about God, then they must be smart enough to know all the right moral answers.
Wait...there are no real morals for athests. Morals and truth are whatever you believe they are because there is no real standard. Unless of course your "morals" restrict the "morals" of someone else, then it just comes down to whoever you agree with is right and the other is wrong.
Have you ever asked yourself why an athiest who believes they only have a few thousand days left to live in their brief existance wastes so much of that limited valuable time trying to insult a Christian? What logically explanation are you hoping to get from a group with this line of reasoning?

"Why don't atheists understand Christianity?
I always hear atheists say that they dont like Christians because they put God in politics and attempt to ban abortion, stem cell research, gay marriage, ban evolution from schools, etc. But, atheists never asked my opinion on the matter and I doubt they asked any other Christians."
First you are wrong. I have discussed all of the issues you mentioned with all of my christian friends and acquitntances.
Why is it that the supermajority of christians want to ban abortion, stem cell research, evolution etc.?
OBVIOSULY it is because of the practices and conditions of their religion which convince them that these things shouldn't exist!
"None of these things have anything to do with my religion. I do not support stem cell research and abortion because of moral reasons, not religious."
That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
Where do you get your morals from, hmmm?
Your religion!
"I think it is morally wrong, but I know there is nothing in the bible saying not to have an abortion or make stem cells."
I seem to remember something in the bible about not murdering others.
And what is "morally wrong" about stem cells? I bet you don't even know what stem cells are!
"Can't I still be a conservative in the US, or did the militant atheists ban that party? I don't support evolution because I have not been convinced of it."
And I am sure you've never even opened a single book about the subject.
But it doesn't matter, evolution, like gravity, is a fact.
"And gay marriage, I don't hate that because God says so, I hate it because it is GROSSSSS! In fact, I am quite open-minded..."
That's rich.
"when two young ladies want to explore, so you can't call me a bigot. Why do atheists constantly generalize me and think I cannot make a moral decision on my own? "
Lets see, EVERY one of the subjects that you disagree with and want banned, every other christians wants banned.
The generalization is fair and accurate.

You wrote, "Why don't atheists understand Christianity?" Apparently you haven't read many of the posts on YA R&S because many atheists (including myself) have stated that we came out of Christianity after years of believing. Believe me, we understand Christianity quite well.
"I do not support stem cell research and abortion because of moral reasons, not religious. I think it is morally wrong," That is your choice, but please do not force that opinion on those who have no moral qualms about them.
"Can't I still be a conservative in the US, or did the militant atheists ban that party?" I am quite conservative and still an atheist.
"I don't support evolution because I have not been convinced of it." No problem. If you want to believe in creationism be my guest, just don't try to have it taught in public school biology classes because it isn't a science. If you want that pseudo-science taught in a church school, be my guest.
"And gay marriage, I don't hate that because God says so, I hate it because it is GROSSSSS!" Then don't marry someone of the same gender as you. By the same token, don't force your beliefs on others. If two people who happen to be of the same gender want to marry, they should be allowed to.
"I am quite open-minded when two young ladies want to explore, so you can't call me a bigot." Are you saying you like to watch lesbian sex? If that is what you mean, then I would call you a voyeur.
"Why do atheists constantly generalize me and think I cannot make a moral decision on my own?" Actually, that is what Christians have been doing with regards to atheists and other non-Christians.

I am an atheist. I'm also a conservative. I believe in science, not "God." According to science, a fetus's heart beats around the 16th day. To me, that means it's alive and deserves to be born. Anything after that is murder. I'm also against gay marriage.
When I am faced with a Christian who lets religion dictate their political views, I may think them a little foolish at first, but I do understand that it is a part of their life and they are doing what they think is right. No matter where they get their opinions and beliefs, the fact is they're as entitled to have an opinion as much as I am. Morality is not necessarily based on religion and it doesn't have to be. "God" has nothing to do with my decision not to rob old ladies or kill children. I can't, with a clean conscience, support abortion, and that has nothing to do with religion.
Some atheists, just like some theists, are crazy. The keyword here is "some." Some people blow up abortion clinics and others think anyone with faith is stupid and irrational. There is nothing wrong with faith until you try to push it on others, and the same applies to atheism. I never argue about whether or not there is a god until some little Christian dufus tries to convert me using the bible as if it's a textbook of truth. Beyond that, I have enough respect to keep my mouth shut.

Now there's an assumption!
If you said *some" atheists you might have been on more solid ground.
I would claim to understand Christianity better then 95-99% of Christians.
And as to your last line, well, apart from you generalising us (there's a biblical parable about that!):
first, if you are leaving the bible aside, why should what is "gross" to you be a basis for someone else's morality, or impinge upon it? Would you accept your behaviour being censured simply because someone else found it "gross"?
Second, if you do believe the bible your freedom for moral decision is constrained by anything the bible *does* rule on. You should be able to come up with a list of things you must approve and disapprove of, with no option allowed.

"I hate it because it's GROSSSSS! In fact, I'm quite open-minded when two young ladies want to explore..." Translation: I'm a pervert. I'm ok with lesbians because it makes my pee-pee feel funny. I'm not ok with gays because they're different than I am. I'm not ok with things that are different.
Umm... perfect real world definition of the word bigot!
And in asnwer to the actual question (which had nothing to do with the rest of this nonsense!), I understand Christianity better than most Christians. As a result, I don't believe it anymore. You are the weakest link, GOOD BYE!

Because it's icky is not a good reason to deny human beings their civil rights. If it were, senior citizens and ugly people would not be allowed to marry.
And I quite frankly think many atheists understand Christianity and the Bible better than most Christians.

the reason why people think that you cant make a moral decision is because you obviously think that you are better becuase you are christian. im a christian and im not a total *** hole. its people like you that cause people to not want to understand about christianity it is insulting that you try to force your belifs upon other people you should accept people for who they are no matter what even if you dont agree with thier ideas i dont agree with some peoples beilfs but i dont say hey you are discusting and a disgrase if anything you are a discrace to christianity as i said im a christian and i even think that you dont have morals because your a total dick and closed minded to any other religion or idea

"Why don't atheists understand Christianity?"
And the pot said, "KETTLE, YOU BE BLACK!"
Okay. So can I call you someone who has double standards instead?
What's so "morally wrong" about stem cells? I've actually taken the time to look into it and I can't see anything wrong with it.
It's not our fault that you're not convinced of the scientific factual basis for evolution. It's the backbone of modern biology, whether you or I like it or not.

So what you are saying it that you aren't a ignorant, small-minded Christian jerk--you're actually just an ignorant, small-minded jerk who is ALSO a Christian....
Thanks for clearing that up.
Wait a second--I thought Christians got their morals from God. No you are saying that morals have nothing to do with God? I guess you can't accuse atheists of being amoral anymore.
