I am almost 18 years old and I have never been on a date or had a boyfriend. I look perfectly fine. Clear skin, straight teeth, etc. I have great friends and I am not a complete loner. However, I am focused on school and my high pressure AP classes and I was wondering if this could be the reason. Are guys intimidated by "smart" girls??

It seems guys will talk to me, say hi to me in the halls, but nothing beyond that. It is starting to become very frustrating as my friends get serious boyfriends and I am left alone once again. I don't know if there is anything I can do. Can anyone help me?

Im sure everyone at your age wants to have a serious relationship, its part of being a teenager! But honestly I dont think you should be concerned. As with guys being intiminated, it could possibly be that, it just really depends as each guy is different. Some like brains with beauty, while others may feel intimidated. Are you a quiet or shy person? That could be part of it. When I was in high school, I was a very quiet and shy person outside of my group of friends, I had a few guy friends but never a serious relationship. My first real relationship was not till I was almost 20, and were still together 8 years later with 2 beautiful children. I know what you mean about your friends having relationships, and feeling left out, as I felt that way as well. But all good things come to those who wait, and one day Mr Right will find you!!

I hope that helps you out a bit

Don't worry about it (I know that's hard to do). A friend of mine didn't get her first boyfriend until she was 22 and they're married now and very happy. She waited until she found someone that she was really interested in and then went for it.

Just wait until you get to college. You'll have a lot more choices and more guys will be interested in the same things that you are. Don't let anything compromise your good grades and efforts now.

Just for clarification, are you interested in any particular guy and that's not working out or are you not interested in anyone but just wanting a boyfriend? If the latter is the case, don't just go out and get a bf for the sake of having a bf. This usually turns out REALLY BADLY!! Wait til you find someone you really like.

If you do have someone that you really like, but are not pursuing that, then that's a different situation.

Girl, YES!! Guys are intimidated by smart girls why worry about it now. It is cool to be social and go on dates but you are on the road to success, you could be the next CEO of a major company another great entrepreneur. Sometimes we are destined to do things that is out of our control for reasons that we know nothing about. And maybe it is a good idea that you haven't done this, but at the same time social life is important. You still have college don't forget about that! Believe me someone is looking at you it will happen eventually. But saying that school is a problem is not one of those reasons. You are doing good for yourself. And sometimes guys want you to be like them and when you excel passed them they are intimidated, but then that is when you find a guy who is on your level!

Things will probably pick up for you in college. The high school boys are probably intimidated by your intelligence. Isn't there any cute smart boys in some of your AP classes? If not wait until college trust me things will pick up for you. Good luck.

You're in a tough spot. I was the male version of this during high school. Fortunately I had a number of male friends in the same situation with the same kind of 'headed for college drive.'

My suggestion is to form a study group with people of similar motivation if you can. Meet weekly with them, daily for lunch if possible. The best thing you can do for yourself right now is to surround yourself with similarly motivated people. That'll help you get through the hard times.

Good luck, the best times of your life are just ahead.

Oh, girl, the point is to not give up. I take AP classes and I have great boyfriend that doesn't. Things will get better. Just hang in there.

Nobody can help you really... If you think you're smart, think again.
For smart girls, boys are not the ultimate source of happiness. Listen to yourself girl... You have everything going for you... You're good looking, good at studies, have great friends... Why would you doubt yourself just because you don't have a boyfriend?? Big deal!! Boy or no boy life goes on. Why do you need a guy to make yourself feel good?

Look dear, I think you should focus on the school work. Trust me, you don't want to dating just because everyone else is! Remember that everything comes at it's own time and I am sure that you will find that someone special. Hope that this helps and good luck!
