I asked my stylist when I was growning my hair out from a very short cut this same question. She said that this is an old wives tale. Healthier hair may grow faster - but you should focus on keeping it healthier from the roots on down. Everyone's hair grows at its own pace. It ranges from 1/2 inch to 1 inch a month depending on the time of year. She says that your hair grows faster in the warmer months. Good luck!

That is only partially true. In fact, your hair does go from the root, not the dead part on the bottom. When you trim your hair, you are getting rid of dry ends or split-ends, which makes your hair healthier. When your hair is less weighed down and healthier, it will grow faster. If you don't trim split-ends, they travel up the shaft of your hair and only do more damage.

This common misconception comes from the fact that hair is thicker at the base than it is at the tip, so it appears thicker at first. Cutting your hair does not affect hair growth at all; it will grow about half an inch each month no matter what. Regular cutting, however, is to be recommended, as it keeps the hair style in good shape and getting rid of dry ends restores its lustre, giving us healthier looking hair.

Well when you have really dry ends (like split ends) they tend to get worse when you brush, straighten, or blow-dry. After a while, your ends will start to break off. when your hair grows it's just replacing whats fallen off. You hair seems to grow "faster" because your ends are not breaking off any more!!! This has happened to me allot.

its not true....it seems like it's growing faster because your not looking at the split/dry ends all the time as compared to starring it down when it is dry/split

It doesnt grow back faster! It just seems like it grows back faster because it doesn't break off or split.

It's not true.
But cutting your hair helps it to be healthier because it's not so weighed down.
