Before I got married I was receiving both social security (which is federal) and supplemental security income (which was given to me by the state). When I got married, my SSI was taken, but they couldn't take the social security. Once I got separated from my husband and the divorce was processed, I began receiving my SSI payments again.

your SSI benefits will not be affected. SSI has to do with being disabled, not with your marital status. If you get married it will not be affected. However, your SSI is significantly affecting the state of social security as a whole. SSI was never supposed to exist, you are raising taxes, and depleting the supplemental retirement of many people. You should be ashamed of yourself, unless you are blind, or a hermo or something. Then you probably deserve it, but since I am sure many blind people do not use yahoo answers you are probably just a leach on the system. Get a job.

You will remain a disabled person, and therefore your benefits cannot be affected.

Check with a tax professional to determine how to file at the end of each year, either jointly or singly.

Good Luck!

I believe your SSI would be taken, but I think your SS disability payments would remain the same.

I am on disability also but for a spine conditon. Oh yes, they will take your income away for sure. We live in a poor area and my boyfriend only made $26,000 and if we were to marry I will lose mine.I called them and talked to them because I found it ridiculous but it is true. I will stay single. I only get $655.04 a month but it is mine.

Call SSI and ask them. But it shouldn't because you are not getting a late husbands SS. That is when it goes away. You are getting your SSI b/c you are disabled.

Your basic disability payments will not be lost. The supplement you may be getting for low income will be lost. You will still get your disability payments though.
