So, the other day I found a plastic bag hanging on the knob of my front door. Inside was a tract about how sinful we all are and how we can be saved by Jesus, a pamphlet about the church the people who left it there were from, etc.

My apt. complex has a clearly posted no solicitation policy, btw.

So... I found a handout on digitalfreethought.com...

Think they would mind if I left that on the front door of their church?

"enquiry" is the British spelling.

Roxie - that would be criminal solicitation, as with prostitution or solicitation to commit murder.

A posted "No Solicitation" policy is not about murder and prostitution. It varies from state to state and policy to policy.

The policy of my apt complex includes knocking on doors or distributing literature for the purpose of sales or the promoting of an organization, company, or product... including churches.

I think you should do it! =0)

After all, doorknobs are fair game...
(WTF happened to private property and no soliciting?)

Go ahead. I don't think they would care. Is it really such an invonvenience to throw away a plastic bag of flyers? Most of the time this is from Jehovah's Witness (Kingdom Hall), but I suppose some legitimate Christians could have put it there, especially if it said you could be saved by Jesus.

I went fishing the other day and someone had put a flyer for prop-repair on all the windshields of the trucks parked in the lot. I didn't throw a big fit and go knocking on their door. I think you may be getting a little too dramatic.

The law usually defines solicit as "incite, move, or persuade to some act of lawlessness or insubordination; ".

When people come around with free literature, how is that solicitation?

These people (thank God) are following Jesus' example going house to house. Please do not act like they are nuisances.

Of course they would mind - two wrongs do not make a right. On the other hand, multiple wrongs often make a religion.

Just be happy that the whole irritating episode has reinforced your distaste of christianity. If they stop spamming you then you might accidentally slide into churchiness. Perhaps you should thank them.

I would say YES, go leave it on the doorknob. Lots of churches Will throw it away. But if you leave your name & number on it perhaps you will find one of the rare places that will try to take the time to explain their answers to these questions & misquotes , & you will be especially lucky (blessed) if they can do it in a loving way. You may consider that if they can do that then maybe that church would be worth your time to explore further. good luck & God bless!!

Must have nothing to worry about if the mail irritates you. Look out for the sale flyers!

They don't come to my house anymore, I don't think they were very comfortable visiting with me. But I do enjoy the visits :)

PS: They might have quit stopping by cuz hubby once answered the door in his skivvies!

I love this, but it has a typo on the very first panel. Inquiry, not enquiry.

Edit: Wow... I confirmed it with Websters. Whoops! I stand corrected! :-)

All that wasted paper...don't do what they do.

To the first poster: I get upset even when companies leave that junk at my door. God given duty to irritate people? Good job.

Let's define solicitation, shall we.

Solicit: "To make solicitation or petition for something desired."

Unless they're asking for money, etc it's not solicitation. Leaving something at your door is not solicitation.

If they were asking for money, OK, yes they shouldn't have been there.
