Start by getting your cat spayed if she is no longer nursing. That will help calm her hormones down a bit. Also, catnip is a wonderful sedative once the initial racing around the house is done. It's a very calming herb and relaxes them after a while. *********************************** I'm very happy that you kept a kitten for her. That was a super kind thing to do. She and her kitten will eventually become playmates. And your cat having this much energy means that you're doing something right! It's wonderful that she is so active! Now to really get to the problem of who's the boss - to curb the biting and scratching, I have always found that you need to let them know that you're the alpha cat and that your cat needs to respect you. If you're in the middle of holding her, and she starts to scratch or bite, if you hiss and growl at her, she will stop what she's doing and likely cower. You need to become the momma cat and treat her the way mom would. Her mom would put her paw over her while holding her with her teeth and growling. That's cat language. You can duplicate this by holding your cat against her will when she scratches and by growling at her. Then take her to a separate room and say 'bad girl' and close the door. Don't leave her in there for any length of time. 5 minutes is enough time for her timeout. When she comes out, ignore her so that she doesn't think bad behavior equals reward. Repeat to her 'bad girl' and walk away. Cats are very intelligent and catch on fast. She'll understand quickly without hurting her. On the other hand, when she's not biting and scratching, be sure to give her plenty of positive reinforcement by telling her what a good girl she is and play with her - toss a mouse, etc. ******************************** As to declawing, your aunt is right. See the links below. Understanding declawing : Declawing involves several separate, painful amputations. It is a serious surgery, not just a manicure. The British Veterinary Associations calls declawing an "unnecessary mutilation." Indeed, it is illegal in most parts of Europe. Declawing a cat involves general anesthesia and amputation of the last joint of each toe, including the bones, not just the nail. Possible complications of this surgery include reaction to anesthetic, hemorrhage, bone chips which prevent healing, recurrent infections and damage to the radial nerve, pain, and possible abnormal regrowth of the nails. The nails may grow back inside the paw, causing pain but remaining invisible to the eye. Declawed cats need regular X-rays to monitor this problem. Declawing results in a gradual weakening of leg, shoulder, and back muscles, and, because of impaired balance, declawed cats have to relearn to walk much as would a person who lost his or her toes. Without claws, cats are virtually defenseless, and this often leads to neurosis and even skin and bladder problems.

The Cat And The Devil

2016-12-29 20:48:11 · answer #5 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

in the time of witchcraft, a witch's familiar (pet) was always a black cat. In many religions, magic and witchcraft is work of the devil, weather its is good magic or not, hencewhy cats are animals of the devil.

Also, in the Bible, Rotweilers were the "hounds of hell " - alot of that is also mentioned in the movie "the Omen", which is an exagerrated version of some actual events.

The association of cats with the devil arises primarily from the misunderstood characteristics of the animal that was seen as good from many cultures and condemned by Christianity. For example, it was that cats were able to see spirits and once Celts believed that humans could look at another world through the cat’s eyes. The myth formed by the observing nature of cats. They sometimes seem to be looking at thin air, because there is nothing around to be seen. This occurs because cats have a very keen sense of hearing and are very attentive of their environment. This also happens with many other characteristics of the cat such as coiling in a circle as also serpents do, which are associated with evil, the appearance of sneakyness produced by their agile movements and their nocturnal nature.

Also, as explained in John Richard Stephens’ book, The Enchanted Cat, cats where linked with witches in medieval times:

“When people think of witches, they often think of cats. The association of cats with witchcraft began with the Catholic church's persecution of religious groups, some of whom worshipped the cat. In the 12th century this persecution spread to splinter groups of the church itself, such as the Cathars, whom the church accused of worshipping the Devil in the form of a cat. This led to stories of Satan's appearing at Black Masses as a cat.

The witch trials started in the 13th century. People began to believe that witches had the ability to turn into an animal, usually a hare or a cat, in order to transport themselves to a sabbat (a midnight meeting) presided over by the Devil.

The idea of familiar spirits soon developed. These were imps or minor demons who took the form of any small animal, from a hedgehog to a toad. A familiar acted as an intermediary for the witch, carrying out her orders so that she wouldn't have to be at the scene of the crime when the evil deed was done.

A witch's cat came to be called a grimalkin. The Scottish goddess of witches was called Mither o' the Mawkins, a mawkin or malkin being either a cat or a hare. Originally a gremalkin was a gray cat. Later the term came to refer to the "*******" or "catkins" on a pussy willow, as well as to the witch's cat.

The Black Death devastated Europe from 1346 to 1349. This and other plagues were blamed on witchcraft, and the witch trials became intense at this time. Pope Innocent VIII issued a decree in 1484 denouncing all cats and anyone who owned one. He commanded that, whenever a witch was burned, her cats must be burned with her. Inquistor Nicholas Remy echoed this a century later when he said that all cats were demons. During this period priests presided over festivals where cats were burned by the hundreds.

With acute labor shortages caused by the plagues, landowners turned to less labor-intensive activities, such as sheep farming. For the poor, food and jobs became scarce. As economic problems grew, the witch trials offered an excuse to get rid of “economically useless” old women. Women such as these, isolated from society, had turned to their cats for friendship.”

I've never heard it myself. Probably because cats are associated with witchcraft. Only stupid ignorant people would say something so silly LOL

Never heard of that saying. I know that black cats and witches are associated. That's why people with black cats have to lock them up on Halloween night to keep them safe.

Curious.

Because people think cats are associated with the devil and witches. They used to burn them alive in the dark ages because people are stupid.
