Sugar Ray Robinson
In his first 123 fights, he was 121-1-2 with 78 knockouts. The one loss was to Jake La Motta, whom he defeated on 5 other occasions. From 1943 to 1951, Robinson was undefeated in 93 straight contests.
His complete pro record is 175-19-6-2NC(109).
The term "pound-for-pound" was coined just to do justice to his stature in the fight game traditionally dominated by heavyweights. In his first 40 fights, Sugar Ray beat 7 future or fomer world champions.

To those who said Muhammad Ali: Ali himself, the self-professed "Greatest" always acknowledged he meant he was the greatest heavyweight, the fastest heavyweight of all time, but that Ray Robinson was the greatest fighter of all time.

If you are looking for humor, I ought to say that the best boxer of all time is Rocky Balboa. Seriously, though, THE best fighter pound-for-pound is the fighter that came up with that term himself. He is no other than the great Sugar Ray Robinson.

Cj-caper get a thumbs up from the blogbaba, Carmin Basilio, Gene Fullmer, Glenn Olson, Jake Lamatta, Rocky Graziano, Randy Turpin, Henry Armstrong and Kid Gavin agree with cj and the blogbaba that Sugar Ray Robinson was the best boxer of all time. All are hall of fame champions that Ray beat in his storied career. Even Muhammad Ali didn't face competition as tough as Ray Robinson did.

Ali. Thou, I like to classify by weight classes, it's only far that way. I like Chavez in his weight class and Roy Jones Jr in his low weight class. But it's really hard to say. Maybe if it was classified by weight class and area! Ali was a true champ, physically and mentally!

i think that the TWO best boxers were sugar ray leonard and joe louis, because muhamid ali was good but he sometimes couldn't back up what he said.
