I put eggs in a pot of water and bring to a boil for about 8-10 minutes. I immediately take them off the heat, dump out the hot water and fill the pot with cold water and then let them sit for a while.

Technically, they should not be boiled. What you do is get the water boiling, place the eggs in the water, and then take them off the heat. Let them sit in the hot water for 10-12 minutes. Then, remove them from the water, let them cool, and then peel and chop the eggs.

An egg typically should be boiled for fifteen minutes.start with cold water and when it starts to boil ,begin timing.Much longer than fifteen minutes and the whites will start to become rubbery and the yolks will begin to turn a greenish color around the outside.A fifteen minute egg makes great egg salad.

Put the eggs in cold water with a splash of vinegar and when they come to a boil -- 9 to 10 minutes they are done and cool down with cold water. The yolks will be nice and yellow. If you ever over cook you eggs and the yolk has a dark edge around it just put all the yolks in a bowl and set them in a sunny window and they will turn almost all yellow again.
