I understand exactly how you are feeling. Since Friday night, I have been calling various petfood providers and been doing my own research. There are still a great many cat foods out there that are NOT involve in this recent recall; that do not use wheat gluten nor animal by-products in their formulas. I switched my cats from Iams and Eukenuba (fortunately the cans I had were not in the batch of recalled items) to Natural Balance. It has no wheat gluten, no by-products and is procesed in Utah - very far away from Kansas. Importantly, it has nothing to do with Menufoods.
Safe cat food labels that I know about:
1) Purina (Friskies, Fancy Feast, Purina Kitten, Purina One, etc.) Purina recalled only one item - a dog food manufactured by Menufoods.
2) Whiskas
3) Sheba
4) Old Mother Hubbard
5) Castor and Pollux (Organix and Ultramix)
6) Innova
7) Nature's Recipe
8) Natural Balance
9) Wellness (caution here: they do use Menufoods manfacturing plants)

I dont think tuna has all the nutrients cats need to stay healthy. I have three cats and feed them Science Diet dry food. Its a little on the expensive side, but is good stuff. You cant usually buy it at the grocery, only at pet stores or vets offices. I trust it. If you are worried about the recall for pet food, try not to be, there has been people food recalled before too.

There are still safe foods out there, not to worry.
You can choose any food from this list. Naturally during this time you want to keep your eye on your cat, but the latest word is that wheat gluten is the leading suspect, with "byproducts" trailing closely behind.
None of the foods on this list contain wheat gluten OR byproducts.
I have and will continue to feed canned Natural Balance Venison & Green Pea.
In the past, it was DRY FOOD that was recalled. This is the first time canned foods have had a problem like this. Canned food is extremely superior to dry and it's the only commercially prepared food I would ever advocate.
Check out this other link for more info on the recall.

I have been giving my lovable cat Innova dry food , very high quality full of all the good things to keep your cat healthy ,. I started him on the kitten one from 4 mths till 9 mths then switched to adult . He loves it , and does not eat wet food at all . He actually does not like it . It is expensive , and can only be bought in pet stores, ( he deserves only the best ) If you want your cat to live a long healthy life , quality food , lots of love and playtime , check ups at the vet every year. Tuna only once in a while , not daily , your cat will become very sick .

Tuna should only be given as a treat. It is very High in Sodium and is not healthy for the cat.
Wet food is good for your cat, and dry food should be given also. Cats dont drink a lot of water, so putting a cat a strictly dry, will leave you cat dehydrated.
I feed a holistic food, it is good for the cats and easy on the wallet. It is called Chicken Soup For the Cat Lovers Soul. They also make canned foods. I switched my cats over from Iams to Chicken Soup, and they dont need to eat as much of it and they poop a lot less too!!

The tuna can make your cat sick. In the long run it can hurt their muscles. I got an email from Purina and they said their dry food is not on their list and they said in this email that their dry cat food is not made out of the country like the other cat foods that have been recalled from other companies. Purina cat chow is ok and the other ones from Purina are ok also. I have the number for Purina and I found their web site and I emailed them and they emailed me back with their answer and now I feel better about the food I give my cat.

No cat or kittens over 10 weeks should be given wet food on a regular basis.
Dry food is and always should be your first choice.
However there is nothing wrong with giving Human Tuna in WATER once every few weeks as a treat.
Wet food does not make for a healthy cat.
If you have concerns switch to Purina pet foods. Safe and trustworthy.
Hope I have helped.
Good Luck

For an occasional treat yes, but not as a steady diet since it doesn't have all the nutrients your cat needs.
Dry food was not involved in the recall and Menu Foods does not even make dry food at all. It is perfectly Ok to feed a diet of only high quality dry food and it is nutient balanced. My cat is thriving on it and it is better for his teeth than wet food anyway.

Don't worry so much! Instead of wet food (which is not that great for cats to begin with unless prescribed by a vet) switch to dry food. It helps maintain tooth and gum health and the poop doesn't smell nearly as bad.
Try Iams, Science Diet or other brand with good ingredients. If you are really that worried, purchase your food from the vets office.

I feed my cat a bit of tuna, mixed with good quality dry food, like Science diet or Science hills. He loves it. Tuna can have too much sodium for the cats, and is not ok to give him JUST that. A little bit is ok, they love it. But the love the flavor, so, try tricking them with a bit of tuna mixed with the dry food, that also helps their teeth. I buy Science Hills T/C for dental care. I have also made my own cat food, with boiled chicken, rice and carrots, blended, with a tiny bit of salt.
