Mine is a wolf. I felt drawn to them all of my life, and now, mine appears frequently in my dreams, and my dreams are very lucid. Lately, he's been accompanied by a giant eagle.

Years ago this North American First Peoples Shaman did this ritual with me. It was on the Queen Charlotte Islands, the Haida Indians home, an amazing place that has been untouched by the last two ice ages. Anyway after loading me up on magic mushrooms we went on a vision quest and this is what She told me, more to the point showed me, it got kind of weird. To the east the hawk, to guide me through my greatest challenges. To the west the swan, to keep my personal truth. To the south the frog, to protect the inner child. To the north and my greatest strength is the fox, giver of wise counsel and change for winters camouflage. Above is the turkey, the gift bird, bearer of honour in the star nation. Below the owl, strength in silent flight or attack, ever watchful. Within the antelope, the connection to the long past unbroken, to live is to take, to take is to give back. So there You go, it was an interesting couple of days, that's for sure.

I have different ones for different things. My dream guide is usually spiders.

My heart totem is a crane (bird, not machine)

my soul totem is a turkey vulture (hey, she picked me! couldn't help it!)

I also have power totems and energy totems, and different animals for different things. Just what I feel drawn to.

on a guided meditation, i found my 2 animal guides. they surprised me. i thought it would be my "favourite" animal, or one that's really cool. but the first one was a blue jay, and the second was a jaguar.

Jaguar - Chaos, shape-shifting, psychic empowerment

Blue Jay reminds you to take care that someone may be encroaching on what is yours. Alternately, you may be putting too much emphasis on the importance of a material item, and forgetting to honor those around you, like Blue Jay's attacks on other birds in the yard, even when the other birds do not eat the same foods.

In the purest sense of the concept you shouldn't discuss your spirit guides or they could leave you, according to some shamanic traditions.
