I go on many dates with guys I meet online. Most of them are good but I do find the occasional bad one. I am nervous every time I meet someone new but try to focus on just going out and having a latte and some conversation. However, some times I meet the guy at starbucks and he says something like "where can we go to talk?" we end up walking somewhere to sit down some where and talk and all the time I'm wanting the date to end (a guy who is too cheap to buy coffee doesn't really interest me) so that I can get my own coffee and go on with my day. I have a date tomorrow and have a feeling this is going to be one of those times as the guy seems really simple minded. I didn't realize it till after chatting with him for a while and now I'm stuck meeting him out of courtesy (I think I owe him that). I never drink coffee before a date because I prefer to have it out when I can, and sitting with a date (sometimes at startbucks) and not having coffee, well I just want to end the date

If we agree to meet for coffee, shouldn't we be having coffee, no just sitting at the coffee place? I don't want to waste my time with a cheapskate, so if he turns out this way, how can I end it quickly without being rude, so that I can go ahead and get my coffee and go about my errands for the day? (this is a mid day date)

Tell him a white lie. Just look at your watch at some point, and say, "I'm sorry, I have to go home now and get changed for work" or "I have to go and pick up my daughter", or whatever.. And say it firmly. Make your farewells and go.

First of all, a first meeting is not a date.

Second, I would not expect him to buy me anything for a meeting. You should get your own coffee and stop making up anything about the other person. If they don't get anything fot themselves, maybe they don't like coffee. Get over yourself.

Third, what is the big deal? You meet at the coffee place to talk, you stay there and have one coffee to see if you like the person or not. If not, you go your merry way.

You need to screen better if this is such a big deal. You don't owe anybody anything - but you should do your homework before you waste someone else's time.

If you have a cell, go to the bathroom, call or text someone and have them call you in 5 min. with an "emergency" then you have to leave and it's not rude, OR be very blunt and tell him hey I'm just being honest I don't see this going anywhere at all, some people appreciate honesty, or it will make him cry, LOL hope I helped!

I think you need to say something like, "Hey, it was really nice to meet you but I think we're going in different directions." Then shake hands and... head in different directions.
