ipod nano doesnt support video. Unless you mod it. and that is VERY difficult. not worth just pending the extra for the ipod video.

You can play videos with the nano. If you use iPod Linux

And then use the iPod Linux video player
http://ipodlinux.org/Video_player

But be warned this is very hard to install, and it voids your warranty. Also, you can only play uncompressed .avi files, so your movie on the nano will actually be 10 times the size of the original movie file.

You have to buy an Ipod Video to put movies on because you can't have movies on Nanos

Make sure your videos are in .mp4 format and copy them in Music Videos folder within your iTunes app. Next time you plug in your iPod to your computer, it will sync the videos.
