If budget is your concern then on Expedia over Easter to Hong Kong first is about £400 cheaper, than Singapore first.

I don't think there is one simple answer to this. Fairs change and what is important to you (cost vs which airline etc) will impact your decision.
If cost is a major decision I would suggest you speak to your travel agent of visit Expedia, Yahoo or Opodo to get you to Asia but look at doing the jump from Singapore to HK (or vice versa) with a local no frills regional airline such as Tiger Airways or Air Asia
