You will have to have a Necropsy done to be sure of what your dog died of. If the vet is saying its Kidney failure then i would look at the foods you were feeding him and see if he can be tested for what it is they are recalling the foods for. But the vet is guessing a Brain Tumor and not Kidney Failure, I would get more information from him, Its strange they are guessing and not trying to determine it.
Then I would say have the vet suggest a place for a Necropsy (examination to determine exact cause of death) or have him do it himself. It can be expensive but it will help if the cause was the food. Its the only way to know what happened.

The short answer is no, the food couldn't have caused kidney failure. Not if it was an AAFCO approved dog food.

Your dog was showing some signs of kidney failure (polyuria/polydypsia) but if there's no abnormalities in the blood work, it can't be kidney failure. The kidneys are filters of our blood, and if they aren't working correctly, then there will be abnormal numbers of proteins (Creatinine and blood urea nitrogen, to be specific.) Since these weren't elevated in your dogs blood work, the kidneys must have been functioning.

This means we need to look elsewhere for the problem. The symptoms you mention are signs of a great many problems, so it's difficult to determine. Since I haven't seen any of the test results, nor do I know much about the dog or it's history, I can't say with any amount of certainty, but the seizures most certainly point to a brain tumor.

Nobody on this or any other site is going to be able to give you the answers you're looking for, unfortunately. I wish I could tell you what happened, but at this point the vet that treated him is the best resource you have. I'm very sorry for you're loss.

Vets are highly trained professionals and I would go with his diagnosis . This thing about tainted dog and cat food is very serious but it can't be blamed for every situation involving your pets .. and before anyone says anything about my comment I have a dog who has been raised on Ole Roy Dog food and I would be devastated if anything happened to him but lets not blame that on everything .
It is possible your dog had kidney failure , or he ate chocolate or onions ,etc and chemicals like anti freeze , which for some reason dogs are attracted too , there are so many foods that are toxic to dogs and cat's so what I am saying is remember your pet when he was healthy , keep him in your heart and believe that he is not in pain any longer , you did everything you could do so have no regrets .
go out and get another dog and let him be spoiled too

the only way to know is to have a necropsy done on your dog.
I don't think excessive urination would be a symptom of a brain tumor... Unless it was very late in the game.

It is very possible it was the food and it caused the kidney failure. How long did this go on, and when did he die.

My brother's cat went thru the same thing, he died just days before the recall was announced. Had they announced the recall February 20th when they first found out there was a problem, his cat and many other pets would have been alive today..

It MIGHT be Kidney Failure. Why did the vet assume it was a brain tumor? Did they run any tests to know for sure? Why was he on anestetics? What kind of food were you feeding him? How old was he? Was the food canned, pouches or dry? If it was canned or pouches, was it on the recall list?

Were you feeding him any of the brands that are on the recall list? I'm so sorry you lost your dog to kidney failure. You won't know the answer unless your Vet does a necropsy.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
