Because god wanted to play a trick on us. Create humans, let them do whatever they want, but if they do something you don't like reward their bad behavior with eternal damnation!!!! It's a fun game.

The problem this presents is if God is all knowing, then why didn't he stop Lucifer?

This is what I've come to... Choice. God gave Lucifer the choice to sin, or not sin. Lucifer chose sin, and was tossed to earth. Then Lucifer gave Adam and Eve choice. They both chose sin (they didn't have much resistance or anything ubilt up... most scholars think they were tempted very soon after creation, so they were not as determined as most adults. Think asking a child if he wants candy. yes.)

So basically... to have a good choice, you must have a bad choice. Because you can't have a one-option decision.

By destroying Lucifer, there would be no bad choice, as he represents the evil, and thus no good choice.

One of the many inconsistencies. Depending on who you talk to, angels either do or don't have free will. According to most Christians I grew up with, God created humans because he was tired of having angels that HAD to do what he said. Which makes it impossible for lucifer to have rebelled in the first place. If you believe they did have free will, why did God create humans? These are things that I would want to know. But the Bible is unclear about them. If an omnipotent God created humans, wouldn't he be ALLpowerful enough to stop Lucifer from screwing with his "prefect" creations. Hmm... I wonder what the Christians will have to say about this one.

*ADDED*
What's more troubling, though, is that we non-believers are going to be sent to hell for eternity. And hell was created for Lucifer, who SAW god with his own eyes and STILL chose to go against him. How does that work out? We get cast into the worst imaginable place that was only created to punish someone who had a massive advantage over us? If Lucifer gets cast into hell, so be it, because he was trying to topple god's "empire". All we're trying to do is live our lives the best we can.

Tradition says that Lucifer fell prior to the garden and it is WRONG! There is no biblical proof whatsoever! The notion that God wanted to test us is luicrous!! Would you put your firstborn in a back yard at a very young age (although the age is irrelevant) with a full grown lion - just to see if he could make it on it's own. Neither did God!!! Lucifer was his most trusted angel and I believe he was there in the garden doing what all angels do. (since scripture teaches that they are ministering spirits *read Heb. 1) To the contrary there seems to be biblical truth stating that Lucifer fell in the Garden. We reak in Ezek 28:11-15

11 The word of the LORD came to me: 12 "Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says:

"'You were the model of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden,
the garden of God;
every precious stone adorned you:
ruby, topaz and emerald,
chrysolite, onyx and jasper,
sapphire, turquoise and beryl.
Your settings and mountings were made of gold;
on the day you were created they were prepared.
14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
for so I ordained you.
You were on the holy mount of God;
you walked among the fiery stones.
15 You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you.
(from New International Version)

God seems to be speaking directly to Lucifer (through the King of Tyre * much the way Jesus said "Get thee behind me Satan" when speaking to Peter) and these verses talk of him being in the Garden and then speaks of how beautiful he was and that he was blameless in all his ways "till wickedness was found in you". You see - according to this and other passages I believe there is more biblical proof to say that Satan became Satan (instead of Lucifer) when he tempted adam and eve in the garden. This is when he was "cast to the earth" and lost his place in heaven with God. There is a lot of teaching on this subject but this should get your whistles wet. www.RichInGrace.com

When Adam & Eve ate the forbidden fruit, the consequence was God giving the decision to choose between good & evil. They chose evil & to fall into the temptation of Lucifer.
God allows Lucifer to tempt humans, because they now have the ability to choose either to fall into the temptation or to ask God for His help (which is what He really wants).
God sort of 'minds His business', He won't interfere in our lives unless we ask Him to.

Your observations ignore the proper, formal understanding of the concept of omnipotence.

The philosophical rationale is that a supreme being, God, cannot act in an illogical manner with respect to that being's divine and perfect attributes. Hence, God cannot make a rock so big that He could not move it, nor could God do anything that would be a logical contradiction to His divine nature.

Omnipotence means God can do everything **that is possible** within the boundaries of a supreme being. Omnipotence doesn’t mean that God can do anything. The concept of omnipotence has to do with power, not ability per se. In fact, there are many things God can’t do, for example,

- God can’t make square circles.

- God cannot lie.

- What God has created in His image, God cannot annihilate (to erase from existence, to destroy completely).

-**God cannot create a morally free creature that couldn’t choose evil or the creature would not be morally free to choose.**

None of these, though, have to do with power. Instead, they are logically contradictory, and therefore contrary to God’s rational nature.

Thus, we and the angels are created as morally free creatures, able to choose evil.

The war in Heaven was non-existent until God created man. God gave man authority over angels. God says we can call upon ministering angels and they will come and minister unto us. God has given us angels to keep charge over us less we dash our foot against a stone. God says that we(the ones who made it to Heaven anyway) will judge the angels in heaven.
Lucifer, the most powerful and the most beautiful of angels, along with other angels became very jealous of us, that we have dominion over them. The Word of God says woe unto the inhabitants of the earth because the evil one has been cast down and knows he has just a short time.
The war in Heaven is not a war against good and evil per say; it is a war for your soul.

There WAS no pre-existing rebellion of Lucifer. The rebellion of the angel that later became Satan the Devil did not occur until after the human creation. Satan saw the human creation and envisioned a planet full of perfect humans worshipping their creator. He wanted that worship to go to himself instead. That was his goal and it didn't change. It's why one of his temptations to Jesus was offering him all the kingdoms of the world in exchange for one act of worship.

Umm.. I believe we were there when Satan rebelled. God opened a discussion on creating a plan for all humans to be able to make it back to Him.

Satan purposed a plan that would make all the glory, all the power go to him instead of God.

Christs plan was to come as an ADVOCATE of the Father, working with Him to bring about the plan of bringing us all home.

Satan's plan meant that no one had a choice, we all have to obey. There was no option for free will, no option of choosing wrong. We wouldn't learn anything, or be tested in any way. And Satan would get all the acknowledgment for everything, even creation.

Christ's plan was one of choosing to believe, choosing to follow Their plan. Christ said that we have the option of making choices, having the ability to choose wrong and to learn from our mistakes. It meant growth and knowledge. Satans plan meant stagnation and no chance to grow at all.

Of course, Christs plan was chosen by us, and those who chose to follow Satan were cast out of heaven for rebellion. There was a big war (I think more of a fight, rather then fighting like a war. We had probably never seen fighting, so to us, it must have felt like war!), and at the end, the faithful in Christ were kept in heaven. We were given the chance to have a body, to come to earth and live a mortal life. Those who chose Satan's plan will never get the chance to have a body, never get a chance to live.

That is why they are trying to tempt us, to get us to follow them. Every person they can get to follow them, is one less that God gets in the end. The more people Satan gets on his side, the more that won't be in heaven with God.

But, because of the plan of Salvation- Christ coming to earth to atone for our sins and dying to bring about the possibility of resurrection and eternal life for us all- we are able to stop Satan from doing what he will. As long as we follow Christ's plan, we are going to heaven, and will be with God for eternity.
