i think ur confusing self respect and pride ...

While it's true that pride does not prevent humility, too much pride does. So I think that's where the confusion comes in. Many times self-laothing is seen as humility as well. Although self-loathing is not being humble, it could appear to be, at first glance. I think there are sort of fine lines between these things, and since people are frequently willing to see (or assume) the worst, then healthy, normal, non-boastful pride in self is SEEN as lack of humility. As for what is or isn't a sin, I don't know, (nor do I wish to judge, lol)... Great question!!

Too much pride over things given us by God to start with is sin. Humility is nothing more than the truth. If one says, I can really sing good because God gave me this gift. It is not sin but, to say, I can really sing good and accredit it to your own doing is sin. Lack of pride is not a sin. Often lack of pride is misjudged and the culprit is sloth or another sin.

Lack of pride and humility are synonymous. According to church teachings, pride--not it's lack, is one of the seven deadly sins.

My definition of true humility:

To see yourself as God sees you:

A beloved son or daughter of His
A person worthy of God's best efforts and time
Someone with weaknesses and strengths
Someone who could do better
Someone (usually) who has done more good in this world than we give ourselves credit for
Someone who needs His help, whether we admit it or not

Lack of pridefulness is a strength, pridefulness is weakness - only strong people have the courage to be humble

Gratitude is far better than pride

You got it mixed up. Having pride IS a sin.

You see, the problem is that it's not pride, it is hubris.

Worse, the problem is that when Christians borrowed hubris as a "sin," they didn't borrow the associated myths, so they don't know what it means.
