can you help me?

Question

my older sister and my dad are always going at it. they literally fist fight with each other and it really is very up setting ecspecially with my baby sister in the house. just the other day they were going at it in my moms room while she was at work and while i was trying to break it up, me and my baby sister got knocked to the floor. that same night i called the police and my dad ended up going to jail. he gets out in a couple of days. my sister is 18. do you think it was a good idea to call the police and have my dad go to jail even though my sister was the one who started the whole fight in the first place. (she got caught having sex in my parents room).

I'm so PROUD of how brave you are!! That took a LOT of courage to call the police. I know it was a difficult decision, but you took charge of your own life and safety. That's a very mature decision - to do the RIGHT thing even when the situation isn't right.

I think that you did alright calling the police. I really do. If the police thought differently, your dad would not have gone to jail.

I will begin praying for you right now. I know you are scared about him getting out and being angry. I pray for protection for you. I pray that Our Lord Jesus touch the heart of your dad while he still has several days away from you all. I pray that your sister learns to respect her parents and that she understand that having sex is not the way to gain respect. I pray that everyone in your family is touched by The Holy Spirit and that their hearts will be changed to understand that violence against each other is not appropriate behavior.

Ask that He come into your heart to give you peace and encouragement. He will, right now, because He is Our Redeemer...Our Savior...and He ALWAYS keeps His promises. I don't think that calling the police was a bad idea. I think in situations like that being that they both are considered adults in the legal system that being her dad he should of been the bigger person. I am not sure if by you saying that she started the situation by yelling in screaming of fighting. If she started by fighting then she was wrong. I think that maybe if she is 18 he may feel that she should respect their house and them if she is still living there. If not then maybe she should find some where else to go. It may sound harsh but sometimes it is best. No family wants to go through anything like this at all. If they cannot talk it out then maybe their should be some alternative methods and going to jail for both is not one of those methods. Hope everything works out.

It takes two to have a fist fight so I don't think it's worth your energy to try to assign blame. One person can always walk away. If your sister is having sex in the houe, I think it is time to ask her to move out! That was very provocative behavior on her part and meant to infuriate your father (or whoever caught her). She's old enough to defy the rules, she's old enough to move out. That is the sorry solution but I think the only solution.
With a baby sister in the house, there should be an understanding that this behavior is out of place. But even without a baby sister in the house, who needs it? Pack her bags.

If your dad is usually not like this, and your sister started the fist and the fighting because of what she has done....it shows that your dad cares for her and got really upset and couldn't control himself...but if you and your baby sister got knocked down the floor then that's bad...talk to someone..an adult you can trust or a priest

I think you did the right thing. While your dad was right to be upset about catching your sister having sex in his room, it is wrong for him engage in fist fights with her, even if she starts them. He is the parent and should find another way to discipline her. You were also right because you were protecting yourself and your younger sibling from having to witness that and possibly getting hurt in all the mess (not saying your dad would purposely hurt you or your siblings but he should know better than to do this infront of you). I hope the rest of your family supports you in the decision you made because i can tell you did it in the best interest of yourslef and your little sibling. Good luck

I think that sometimes people need a wake up call and maybe now that you called the cops, both of them realize that there must be something wrong with the way they are behaving. You need to be the medium and get a healthy solution to their problem because ur getting affected by this too. Usually I side with the kids when parents are involved in a problem but you can see why ur dad would be mad if his daughter (who he probably thinks is an innocent virgin) is having sex on his bed. Why does your mother put up with this man?
You should not try to break it up ... you might get hurt in the process...just call 911
also, your sister is 18...she is old enough to move out and get a place of her own if she wants to have sex

I think it would be a good idea that your sister move out of that house, your father be arrested and talked to by child-abuse services and that you take care of your baby sister and your Mom. Are you old enough to get a job and help out? If so, do it! Get rid of them both!

Well, i wasn't there for the whole story but your father really cares he will forgive anything you do as parents can sometimes do. I think your sister needs her *** kicked and I think she should get out of the parents house if she is going to disrespect them like that.

tell you what i think it was a wonderful idea in anyway that you can get them to stop fighting, and from killing one another it was definatly the right thing to do besides you got knock to the floor, one out of the two of you that got knock down could have died pleases write me back peace.
