Why in the world would you put a pup/dog through that painfull experience? It is purely cosmetic and has no benefit to the dog. If you wanted a short ear dog, why did you get a long ear?

Yes. They have to be clipped earlier, because they must be done before the cartilage is formed in their ears. I don't promote ear clipping at any age, but 8-12 weeks is ideal for that. 6 months is WAY too old, and you will just injure him.

ALSO, for anyone else out there (and again, I don't like or promote ear clipping) if you MUST do it, HAVE A PROFESSIONAL DO THE CLIPPING. Find a vet who will do it. You should NEVER do it yourself. In my practice I have seen way too many cases where people have tried to do this themselves, and without proper training to do so, the results are never good. I would say that about 85% of the time, we have to amputate the ears, sew up the drum, and the dogs are usually completely deaf before they even heal. DONT DO IT YOURSELF.

It is way too late to have that done. As others have said it is done at a very young age due to the cartilage and blood vessels not being as developed.

As an aside to those who think cropping is cruel...in certain larger dogs especially it is done for numerous reasons. One is to prevent ear infections common in dogs with very large, floppy ears. The second is that dogs with these types of ears will often rupture blood vessels in their ears when shaking their heads if the ears aren't clipped. Don't just criticize what you don't understand because PETA says so...do some research first.

No. It's the perfect age. My parents have 2 dobermans and the vet here wouldn't clip theirs if they were any younger than 6 months. So they got theirs done at 6 months. Alot of people think that it is inhumane to clip a dogs ears...But, it's not THAT bad. They usually give the dog some pain pills for the first couple of days...And they tape the ears up so that they can heal and stand up....Our vet told us to leave the tape on until it fell off...And it did within about 2 weeks....And by then, the ears were healed perfectly...

Yes, too old.
Cropping a dogs ears at a young age does not hurt him, but at 6 months I doubt you would even find a vet that would do it.
Someone mentioned docking the tail... Pit bulls are not supposed to have docked tails.
It is now very common for people to leave the dogs ears natural. Their ears show so much of their doginality. I don't crop any of my dogs ears.

it all depends on the dogs ears your vet can check them and see, but usually at this age its not aproblem you just may have to go with a shorter clip. and your vet may put him on a calcium supplement to help thicken the cartilage a little more. and believe it or not clipped ear does have a purpose other than for fighting, when ears stand up it allows air and light in the ear thus lesson the chance of ear infections. if you have ever notice dog in the wild , all their ears stand up, only humans have developed breeds that have long floppy ears, which do have higher rates of infections

in case you will possibly desire to do those issues, that is extra effective at an early age. whether, you're suitable that that is purely plastic surgical operation and a large style of vets are actually refusing to do those as that is pointless and painful. Tail docking is yet another surgical operation that it's not being achieved on breeds like Rottweilers who traditionally had them achieved. the comparable with removing of dew claws, oftentimes immediately achieved on domestic canine. So my answer is, sure, your canine is purely too previous.

Why would you want to get his ears clipped? It'll just hurt him, he's better looking with them on. I think six months is too old, but I'm not a professional.
