i live in the city of waukesha, wisconsin. for years this city has been facing many budget cuts to its cities survices, such as bus system, park rec., county fair. the worst of the budget cuts go to our public schools.

next year all schools with have no librarians and many teachers and staff will lose their jobs.

the following school year might elemenate all extracurricular activites such as; football team, basketball, prom, yearbook, band, field trips, cheerleading, etc. you name it, everything (100 + many more). all because there's no money in the budget to pay for these things.

i ask you, what kind of education, and example does this seen to future kids who go to school here?

What do I think of your school system? Not much!

Unfortunately, the reality is that, when push comes to shove (and if there is no state statute that requires that a school have a library and a certified librarian on staff) library programs are at risk when money gets tight.

I see lots of districts that threaten sports programs, but I'm willing to bet (though I can't prove this) that more sports programs survive budget cuts than do library programs.

I expected more from the state of Wisconsin which I perceived (in error, perhaps?) to have a rather good educational system and to rank up there with Minnesota and Iowa. True? or not true?

And here's another tidbit for you: A study has demonstrated that students demonstrate higher achievement in schools that employ a certified librarian or media specialist.

Too much of the basics in education is not being absorbed by students & every one seems to want to have all of the extras.

If we can get the students to take full advantage of the basic subjects & less of the extras there will still be good citizens coming out of our schools.

We need more that can add &subtract or write a sentence that some one can under stand, rather than shoot a basket ball of kick a soccer ball.

There is a growing interest in club sports & activities & if you want you children to partake of these then you can pay from your pocket.

Just teach the Basics.

None of the publics schools in my area have had any of that for years.

Wait, there's two field trips a year (if you're lucky) and they still have yearbook, even though the students have to pay for that themselves.

Look, we're screwed. Might as well have fun while we can.
