Well, you must have a pretty nasty throat infection to be given Azithromycin, 500mg. Normally, one gets 250mg 2 tabs on day 1 and 1 tablet every on days 2-5.

When you start taking this antibiotic(as with most of them), you should start to feel better after about 48 hours. The great thing about Azithromycin is that the antibiotic will stay in your system for 5 days after you have completed treatment.

If you find, however, that after about 2 days or once you have finished treatment, that you do not feel any better, then you need to go back to the doctor to see whether your infection was bacterial or viral(they will do a swab). You may also need a different antibiotic, if it's bacterial. Viral infections are more difficult to treat, since they do not respond to antibiotic treatment and can leave you antibiotic resistant in the future.

Hope this helps and Good Luck.

Azithromycin is a type of antibiotic. It's almost like Penicillin. It will help you with your infection.
When my daughter got pneumonia they put her on Zythromax. It's another form of Azithromycin. it's a little pink pill that comes in a blister pack, and she took it once a day for 5 days. 9 out of 10 you'll be feeling back to normal and every thing will be all good with in the first 2 days. BUT don't stop taking it till it's all gone.

I'm assuming you have strep? That's the only throat infection I know of.

Good luck~

Usually taken 2 pills first day, then 1 pill each day for 5 or 10 days, depending on the doctor's orders.
I have been told by Doctors that the 3 day variety is not better than the 5 or 10 day dose. There is also a one-time dose, but it may REALLY aggravate your stomach-like don't be in the car away from bathrooms aggravation.
Remember, the medicine continues to work past the days that you are actually taking the dose.
This antibiotic is especially helpful in healing chest congestion and sinus infections.
I have had sooooo many sinus infections and this is what works for me. (I always need the 10 day dose.) Also, a decongestant is always prescribed to help "dry everything up". Dr. says antibiotics won't work without drying up the fluid, because the bacteria will still have a home to grow in. Decongestant I am prescribed is Brovex---pretty strong, but it works. Sudafed and others may work too.
I recommend trying to take another medication to prevent you from getting a yeast infection while taking antibiotics. The dr. can prescribe one if you tell him you are prone to yeast infections while on antibiotics.
Hope you feel better. You can always call your local pharmacy-they are very helpful!

Azithromycin is effective against susceptible bacteria causing otitis media (infection of the middle ear), tonsillitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, Mycobacterium avium complex, and acute bacterial flare ups ofchronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It also is effective for acute pelvic inflammatory disease and several sexually transmitted infectious diseasessuch as nongonococcal urethritis and cervicitis.

Azithromycin (except Zmax) can be taken with or without food, but food reduces stomach upset. Zmax should be taken on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal since food reduces its absorption. The adult azithromycin dose is 500-2000 mg in multiple or single doses. For most infections, azithromycin is taken once daily for a relatively short course of treatment (usually five days). The first dose is often a "double dose," twice as much as the remainder of the doses given. For acute bacterial sinusitis, azithromycin way be taken once daily for three days. Zmax usually is given as a single 2 gm dose.

Azithromycin (except Zmax) should not be taken at the same time as aluminum- or magnesium- based antacids, such asMylanta or Maalox because antacids will bind the azithromycin and prevent it from being absorbed from the intestine.

This medication usually takes about 5 days to see the results, from the point which you started taking it. Your symptoms will decrease slowly.

The zithromax you're taking is a tri pack. The other dosage is in the form is called a z-pack, and that is 6 250 mg tablets, taken 2 on the first day, then 1 on the remaining 5 days.

There aren't usually any other extended dosages with zithromax.

Azithromycin is an azalide, a subclass of macrolide antibiotics. Azithromycin (brand names Zithromax® in Italy; Vinzam® / Zitromax® in Spain; Zmax®; Sumamed®; Aztrin®, Zitrocin®) is one of the world's best-selling antibiotics, and is derived from erythromycin; however, it differs chemically from erythromycin in that a methyl-substituted nitrogen atom is incorporated into the lactone ring, thus making the lactone ring 15-membered. Azithromycin is used to treat certain bacterial infections, most often bacteria causing middle ear infections, tonsillitis, throat infections, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia and sinusitis. It is also effective against certain sexually transmitted infectious diseases, such as non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis. Recent studies have also indicated it to be effective against late-onset asthma, but these findings are controversial and not widely accepted as of yet.

There are generally two types of acne treatments: prescriptions and non-prescriptions. The non-prescription treatment systems are usually topically applied and do not contain strong chemicals, and are generally not as effective.
As mentioned above, Zithromax is a powerful anti-bacterial drug that is most commonly prescribed for conditions such as pneumonia, sinusitis, chlamydia, and ear infections. The full name for the drug is azithromycin, and it can be quite effective against harmful bacteria in the skin. Recently Zithromax has been adapted for use against adult acne, and while it is effective against all forms of acne, it is generally reserved for the more severe types. Zithromax is most commonly distributed in "Z-Paks", which come with six 250mg tablets. One can also obtain 500mg tablets. There are different dosage patterns for different people that are determined by the prescribing physician. Those who are or may be allergic to drugs containing erythromycin should not take Zithromax. http://www.8100859623.com

Zithromax is only available via a doctor's prescription. With insurance the cost can be fairly cheap; without insurance, though, a treatment can run over $200.

As far as acne is concerned, Zithromax appears to be effective against acne. This is because Zithromax is an anti-bacterial drug, and acne is caused by a particular type of bacteria in the skin. Users report that Zithromax does a good job of clearing up their acne, which is more than several acne treatments out there can say.

The downsides are the potential side effects of Zithromax. It is a powerful anti-bacterial drug; as such, users could experience side effects such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches. It can also interfere with birth control if taken at the same time. Zithromax, in conclusion, could be a powerful tool to use against acne, but the individual user will have to try it out for themselves to be sure.
