Divorce through civil courts is becoming more common in Ireland and even the church is starting to verbally if not practically acknowledge this fact. Annulment to marriage is the way most catholics seek which at the end of the day is a man made rule manipulated by the church and really not that different from divorce. Catholics are allowed to re marry receive communion etc after annulment but not after divorce.
I am sorry to sound cynical on all of this but to me it is just abending of reality to suit a purpose. In order to get annulment various things as in was not mature enough to marry have to be proved..........anyone on the planet just about can use this one........the church needs to move into the real world I agree.

Catholics are not supposed to. Doesn't mean they don't, but it's a big no-no in the church. Irish or not.

Annulments are allowed - obviously you still have to go through an actual divorce to be in compliance with the law, but the annulment is the church's sanction that you can split up.

You have to meet certain requirements though. You can't just say "he bores me now."

if they get married in the church they can not get divorced, they can get a seperation, or they can get an annulment, they can get divorced outside the church, but if they do they will not be able to get married in the church again.
