If Hearns had fought Barkley a third time would he be able to avenge the two previous defeats he had to him?. I was very surprised that Hearns lost to him the second time around even though he was getting on a bit even then, and light heavyweight clearly wasent his strongest weight class by a long shot. Its not that i think Barkleys a bad fighter he wasent, its just i never thought he was anywhere near hearns,s class. If they had fought a third time at light heavyweight who wins?.

ONE BOXING'S OLDEST AXIOMS - STYLES MAKE A FIGHT.

BARKLEY'S STYLE GOT THE BEST OF HEARNS. I THINK BARKLEY WOULD WIN 6 OUT 10 TIMES.

IN A THIRD FIGHT, MAYBE STEWARD COULD CONVINCE TOMMY TO BOX AND OBTAIN A MAJORITY 15 RD DECISION.

IN THE REMATCH (2ND BOUT) TOMMY WAS NOT BEATEN IN TO SUBMISSION. HE LOST BY A SPLIT DECISION. BEATEN IN TO SUBMISSION MEANS KO, TKO, QUIT; NONE OF THESE THINGS HAPPENED.

Barkley was just one of those fighters who had Tommy's number. I don't think Hearns would ever have beaten Barkley, no matter how many times they fought. The psychological edge was 100% in Barkley's favor, and most likely always will be. If ever there was a classic example of top fighter's both in shape and both having reasonably close physical tools, being defined by that 1% mental edge all top fighters strive for, this is it. There is always somebody better than you, and for Hearns it was Barkley. Barkley will always be the only man to ever win a decision over the "Hit Man".

They could fight 100 times and Barkley would still win. Styles make fights and this is one of those fights that proves it.

When Barkley knocked Hearns TFO the first time, a lot of people thought it was a fluke and that Hearns had started to coast too early.
Barkley came back years later and proved that that wasn't so by mauling Hearns into submission over twelve rounds in one of the most brutal fights I have ever seen.

Barkley was just a bad style matchup for Tommy. He could put a ton of pressure on Tommy and he could take Tommy's best shots. His style would always give Tommy trouble and if they fought 10 times, Barkley would probably win 9 of those 10.

They say some fighters just have your number. Believe me I was so angry over that first fight. Hearns was hand feeding Barkleys a$$ to him, when he threw that darn punch. And then to add insult to injury, he landed another as Hearns was going down. Barkley just had Hearns number.
