Good point actually my friend and I went on a fitness binge so chose to drink vodka and diet coke instead of pints (classy girls, we are squaddies) and we noticed that we felt down afterwards also we thought it was just withdrawal symptons from the lager lol. Anyway good question!

People tend to drink more when drinking vodka as opposed to other liquor, like scotch or bourben. That's because it has no real taste of its own and you are less aware of how much you are actually drinking. What you and your friends are experiencing is a good old hangover. Several days is a long time, but you should not be feeling TOO bad after the first day. Remember to drink a lot of water when hung over because part of your discomfort is from dehydration.
Better yet, don't overdo it with the drinking because it will only lead to problems later. If you find that you can't stop after one or two drinks, then do not drink at all, because you have the alcholism gene and that road is no fun.

Alcohol is a depressant, although it may not feel like that, but it makes you slower and more likely to fall down the dark path of depression.

Some people can have the total opposite effect from alcohol, i.e. activeness and rowdy behaviour, getting low from spirits is more likely to happen when drinking alone. I advise drinking only in the company of friends, that way you don't get hooked (used to be an alcoholic myself)

If your getting low from drinking it, its best not to. Or drink less of it, maybe move onto beer its much friendlier on your insides :)

Vodka is alcohol. Depending on how much you drink, you may feel happy for a while but the real affects make you low. Any alcohol will. Different people experience difference levels of how much they can drink without being drunk.
If you are already prone to depression, it is best to avoid any alcohol. It may make you feel good in the short term, but it really is not good for you.

What is the connection between depression and alcohol?

We know that there is a connection - self-harm and suicide are much more common in people with alcohol problems. It seems that it can work in two ways.

* If we drink too much, too regularly, we are more likely to become depressed.

Regular drinking can leave us tired and depressed. There is evidence that alcohol changes the chemistry of the brain itself and that this increases the risk of depression.

Hangovers create a cycle of waking up feeling ill, anxious, jittery and guilty.

Regular drinking can make life depressing - family arguments, poor work, unreliable memory and sexual problems.

* If we drink alcohol to relieve anxiety or depression, we will become more depressed

Alcohol helps us to forget our problems for a while. It can help us to relax and overcome any shyness. It can make talking easier and more fun, whether in the pub, a club or at a party. It is a very effective way of feeling better for a few hours.

If you are depressed and lacking in energy, it can be tempting to use alcohol to help you keep going and cope with life. The problem is that it is easy to slip into drinking regularly, using it like a medication. The benefits soon wear off, the drinking becomes part of a routine, and you have to keep drinking more to get the same effect.

Maybe . . . because it's made from potatoes and it has all those carbs, that it makes you feel full and tired? :) lol Don't know, when I drink vodka it makes me hyper, I feel low if I drink too much and have to keep my face pressed up against the tile floor!

You're obviously drinking the wrong voddy and/or mixer. Decent vodka and lime is magic.
