if you want an all over color to be lighter, you could go with a light sandy brown or a dark ash blonde (depends on your skin tone too) and then put lighter blonde highlights on top

I also have medium brown hair, but I wanted to give it a summer-y look, so instead of using dyes (which murder your hair) I used a combo chamomile tea and water spray and applied it to the hair around my face and lightly on the rest of my head. I also pulled it through in tiny sections to make natural looking highlights. You then go out and spend a couple hours in full sun (make sure you use SPF). The result was lightened hair with amber and blond highlights. The hair around my face was also lightened, which really perks up your face and looks like you spend all day at the beach.

its really up to you. you can go crazy or just put in low lights. highlighting your own hair can take alot of time, if you do it with a cap and needle. (make sure no one has a cam around) becuse the cap looks really really silly on anyone. i did my hair before with it after you pull every bit of hair you want threw the cap.(does kind of hurt pulling your hair threw) its easy. you can get kits that its called "colored bleach" they come in crazy colors like red, blue, green even pink its by N'rage they are 10 dollers a box. or just buy a bleaching kit.(another word for it is "frosting") colors will go from light brown, golden, yellow, bright yellow too white. make sure you do a test first so you know what color you would like. make sure the kit comes with a highlighting cap and needle. (its not really a needle just a stick with a hook) if not you can buy them caps are under 70 cents and needles you can get for about the same. all this stuff you can get at "sallys" there shops all around in the US. or just go to a near hairstore.
