i would go to a salon and start with a heavy highlight. if your hair is long a whole bleach job is gonna be VERY damaging on your hair. dye doesnt lighten color it only deposits so if you put a blonde dye on your black hair it wont do anything unless you have natural roots grown in. just go to a professional, it will be worth it in the long run

The dye didn't work b/c color doesn't lift color. Basically if you have a dark permanent artificial color in your hair the only thing you can do is go darker you cannot go lighter especially not to a blonde.

Like everyone else said you are going to have to go to a professional for them to decolorize it. You are going from one extreme to another (from a level 1 or 2 to possibly 7,8,or 9 so your hair will be left REALLY dry.

By the sounds of things you might have to go to a brown not a blonde b/c going to blonde is TOO much damage. Go for a consultation and see what they say. Either they'll fix it for about $100-$150 or they will tell you its too much damage for your to go through and that you will either have to get protein/conditioning treatments first or you'll have to just be patient and grow it out.

go to a professional! they are gunna have to strip down the color you have now, if you put bleach or blonde hair dye from a box on black hair you will end up having orange hair, just go to a salon and tell them what you want and they can help you out, might cost more but its worth it

In order to get blonde hair from black you have to bleach it. You can dye your hair darker, but never lighter. I suggest going to a professional if you don't want your hair to turn an orangish blonde.

well you can take the easy way of going to a salon to have them strip it and recolor it, or you can choose the hard way and use a color correction 3-4 times, and try to dye your hair once it is at it's natural. Either way you will spend about the same amount of money. My reccomendation...go to a salon (bo-rics or fantastic sams does it too cheaper than a high price place)

You cannot get the color you want at home. You need to go to a professional salon and have the current color stripped off of your hair. The colorist will then work on your hair to dye it to your preferred color.

Good luck and have a good day.

you need to go to a salon and have it decolorized, they have to strip the old color out first because you can't bleach over dyed black hair. Don't try doing this yourself or you'll end up with orange hair or worse, it could fall out.

I agree...go to a professional! You're going to have to bleach it to get the black color out. My experience with home bleaching is that it takes forever to get dark hair blonde, and even then it's more of an orange color. Leave it to the pros. :o)

You'll definitely need to have it stripped before coloring. There's no color that'll work to cover up black!
