my son was deemed "developmentally delayed" at age 3. He is 4 now and just becamed potty trained only 1 month ago. He went from going all of the time in a pull up to completely trained with no accidents. Something finally clicked. We tried everything before then, from taking him to the potty every 30 - 45 mins to offering toys for good potty behavior. Your son will go when he makes that connection. Be patient and Good Luck.

Patience is the only way to go. My 5 year old son is autistic, and he uses the potty once in a while, without having to be coaxed. He still wears diapers 95% of the time.
Routine helps, but takes a huge parental committment. I plan on starting out gangbusters over the next few months, before he starts Kindergarten. Try sitting your son on the potty every 30 minutes or so, and praise like crazy when he does go in the potty.

Our guys were mentally quick - so not sure if this applies.. What worked for us was an incentive program. We had a chart on the bathroom door and each day that no diaper was required and there were no accidents - a star went on the chart. Each seven day period that went by with all stars brought a small present. They really locked onto this game and they were all potty trained just about exactly at 3YO.
We do have friends whose kids didn't get out of diapers until nearly 5. So if your boy is slow - that may be a possible outcome.

I have a 2 1/2 yr old son with PDD. I keep a small basket with trinkets from birthday goody bags and stickers and everytime he uses the potty he gets to choose a prize. Only problem with mine is getting him to use the potty chair 100% of the time. He wants to go in the floor! Otherwise very successful. Good luck and I hope it helps

you can try floaters like Cheerios or fruit loops in the potty and tell him to try and hit the circle. If the father is available allow him to go to the bathroom with the dad. same sex parent is often the best teacher. especially in this case.
You might should definitely use a potty chair so that he doesn't feel intimidated and feel like he might fall in.
Keep bathroom times regular like every hour and a half or so until you know his schedule. You will probably have to remind him for a while. until it becomes a ritual for him. routine works best.
Make a big fuss when he is successful clap dance sing what ever he sees as making you happy. kids love to please others.
Be very patient it will come in time.
