I believe they are trying to link the recall to Wheat Gluten used to thicken gravy for the canned foods. Its the canned foods they are recalling correct? The food is not made at that same places, BUT these places have all boughten the Wheat Gluten from the same plant that makes it. Its a certian type of ingredient all these companies use.
Example: Just like Hostess twinkes and Little Debbie snack cakes arent made at the same plant but they all use the same brand of sugar...

Not all dog food is made at the same place. This was just one manufacturer that was using a contaminated wheat gluten. I received an email alert about this food recall from a publication that I get that is known for providing recommendations on food and care for dogs. They've actual posted the contents of this alert online as well as additional information about this food contamination. If you are interested in reading more about it, check out the site: http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/news/food_recall_march07.html

All food isn't made at the same place and with the same contents. There was a contamination at that particular plant, and as a precaution, they are recalling all of the products that were manufactured by the plant around the same time. It isn't an ingredient that is contaminated, it was something at the plant. What makes you think they all have the same ingredients? You can cook a burger in your kitchen and you can cook soup there too! Does that mean that they are the same exact thing just because they were made in the same place?? I don't think so.

I have to agree with your sentiment. The amount of food affected is stagering.
This is about the lack of laws on the processing of foods for animals. There often are problems that go unreported. In this case the dynamics were too large to ignore.
The pet food company is now reporting that there are no animal deaths in Canada....this is ridiculous. On our local news, they showed the cases of three different cat deaths, and one sickly dog (close to death)...and this is just a borough of a large city.
I always advocate a holistic diet for dogs. This is the high end foods such as, Burns, Canidae, Solid Gold etc... All good companies, committed to offering human-grade foods, with little/no gluten, wheat or corn. (Gluten was the 'killer' in the recent cases).
Many dog owners in the pure breed circles are dillegent about researching food companies and any hypocrisis or errors that are made. They talk, and spread the word fast.
Unfortunately, this problem occured in food given to grocery stores, Wal-marts/K-Marts. They are the equivalent of 'fastfood' for dogs.
I really am upset over the poor owners who are dealing with this.

That is lame isn't it....? The vast majority of mass produced commercial pet food is all the same garbage ingredients formed in to different shapes and put in different packaging. Unfortunately good intentioned yet uneducated pet owners assume a higher price means higher quality. Pet owners need to learn how to read the ingredient lists not just the price tags.

because people never realize that is how it works...the same with baby diapers, toliet paper, paper towels, makeup..They are all produced by the same companies and the name brand company pays to have their name and package but on the item.

Cheaper brands have more "fillers" these are ingredients that have no nutritional value to your dog-they just fill them up.
