The question is not whether you are a "clean freak" or not; the question you should be asking how can you minimize it for a healthy and happy living. One of my very close person had that problem which eventually led that person in to a lot of trouble. If you continue doing like that you will end up being more unhealthy becoz it is not the dirt or germs you are trying to clean with your own soap; it is the dirt (not in a bad way) that you have in your mind. No matter how much you clean you still will feel dirty. You have to learn the facts that no matter how much you clean there will be dirt and germs and that is the part of the nature. Can you clean the air you inhale? There is dirt and germs in the air too. I am not saying that we don't need to be clean. Cleanliness is a necessity, but what you are doing is an obsession or more. We need cleanliness for a healthy living but remember "excess of anything is bad". You can start thinking more rationally such as your pen or pencil is not the object you need to clean coz you are not eating them or you can easily hold the door nobs or you can put the clothes in your suitcase coz they all are coming in contact with your outer skin. You will need to wash your hands only when you are going to eat or put it in your eyes or in your mouth or in other words when it is coming in contact with your inner body. Your body has the power to fight regular germs and dirt will not kill you. Yes you should clean your hands after touching any animal but you don't have to clean everything other than your hands. You don't cover the whole world to keep the dirt away from your feet, you only cover your feet with shoes to keep the dirt away from the world. So just only wash your hands when you are using them for the purpose as I have told before, not all the objects surrounds you. Remember cleanliness is a necessity not something that you will live for.

Hi, the condition that you are explaining, sounds very much like OCD, which effects many young people and adults alike. Therapy is very effective for this and the kind of therapist that you would need is a CBT which is cognative behavioural therapist, they will help you to address your behaviour and attitude towards your disorder.
O any no you are certainly not a freak, don`t you worry about that or what anybody else writes or says about you. With help you will be able to live more comfortably with this disorder.
Best regards, Julie

I think you may have a slight obsessive compulsive disorder. I am also quite messy but like things clean. However, if it is getting in the way of you doing your studies or getting on with everyday things (and I'd say it is) then I'd contact your GP. This is absolutely normal for a lot of people but you might want to chat to someone who is friendly and caring before it gets worse.

No, you're not a clean freak. You may have some sort of obsessive disorder. I do much of the same things, I just prefer not to have other people's nasty germs on my body. As far as washing your hands, that's a good thing!
