went off zoloft on Saturday and still nauseated and tired. How long until your side effects went away? I stopped taking it after being on it for 5 days because it made me so ill. This has been the worst 9 days ever.

Wow, do I know how you feel! The same happened to me hon. After about a week or two of taking Zoloft I felt worse than ever. The terrible side effects will go away in a few days though. Try to drink plenty of orange and cranberry juice for vitamin c. Eat as healthy right now as you can. If you have time to sleep a little more, do so. I had a hard time sleeping so took a non habit forming sleep aid which was over the counter, very inexpensive...but you should probably consult your doctor before taking anything right now. I know you feel like you may never feel normal again, but I promise you you will very soon. Just try and pamper yourself all that you can. Hot baths are a wonderful way to relax also. I'll keep you in my prayers. Let us know how you're doing. It really IS going to be ok soon :)

It sounds like what you're experiencing is SSRI discontinuation syndrome.

I've personally been through it and there is no doubt that is probably amongst the WORST times I've ever felt in my life.

After 5 days of taking Zoloft, your problems shouldn't be so intense. However, the effects vary for each person.

I've researched that you can take Fluoxetine (generic prozac) to take the edge off; if your symptoms are unbearable. The reason you can take Fluoxetine is that it is part of the same pharma group and will clear from your system quickly and is easy to quit. Zoloft and other SSRI's stay in your system longer and have higher level of chemical dependance.

9 days is a long time to feel the way you do, but if you don't do anything else, you should feel fine as soon as the drugs completely clear your system. Your brain will adjust..... If you're having crazy thoughts like suicide or just can't function, make sure you have someone you trust watching you or worst case scenario, check into a hospital.

Please do not take my advice as treatment, I'm just trying to give you information. Take what you know, speak to your Doctor and they will help you.

Feel better

Tell your doctor to put you on something else. There are lots of SRIs on the market, you may need to try several of them before you find one that works for you.

I didn't have any issues with Zoloft, but I did with others. I probably tried 4 or 5 SRIs before landing on Zoloft. Problem is you need to stay on one for at least a couple of months to find out if it works.

Did you stop it cold turkey? This med isn't one that you should just stop or start. You need to be gradually put on it, and gradually weaned off of it because of it's sometimes adverse side affectes. You can try an otc anti-nausea med, this might make you feel better. But also talk to your doctor and see if you can get on another med.
